Sometimes, you gotta play hurt
I knew it hurt last night. It hurt so badly that I actually took two pain pills, which did nothing for the pain, by the way. The NSAID that I take when I have gout isn't helping either. I'm supposed to take that for the bulging disc in my back. I thought this might be a gout attack, but it's not.
Heat didn't help. Ice is in the forecast. I have this cool thing that I can put around my knee which circulates ice cold water around it. It's a leftover from my knee surgery and I'm fixin' to get a bag of ice and plug myself in as soon as I can drive.
it didn't hurt that bad this morning, though, so I took care of the things I needed to do today. I fixed the tractor! Look out weeds...I have a harrow, a disc, and a moldboard plow and some ground is fixin' to get torn up this week. I had to go to two different parts stores to get what I needed, but the trip was successful. It fires right up and runs in response to the throttle position now. Amazing what fuel to the engine will do!
The other thing I was going to do tomorrow. The lawn at church was getting a little long. I'd just cut it a week ago, but I noticed yesterday it could have stood to have been mowed on Saturday. So did someone else. That's why I decided to do it today. That and that unexplainable nudge to get it done I felt. There were reasons. There usually are.
There are several chinese elm trees in the neighborhood the church is in. They accumulate like snow in the spring, and cleaning up the mess from them takes more time than it does to mow the law. There's the usual trash. For instance, this young lady got off the bus, tore up some papers, and threw them on the lawn where the sign for the church is. Thanks, hon. I'll take care of it for you.
Nobody quit God today. That's a good thing. The pastor came out to go home, and we visited for a few minutes. I told him my knee really hurt but I felt like I had to get the lawn done today. Shortly, I found out why. As we stood there, one of the guys that isn't in the Bible study anymore walked by. We weren't welcome company. He was nice, but didn't want to stand around and chat. We're not gonna win them all. But you try. If we had the chance to explain how unusual it was for the pastor and I to be standing in front of the church, he might have stayed and talked for a few minutes.
He was in a hurry.
But the other guy wasn't.
Usually, I mow the lawn unnoticed. Every now and again, Karl will come out and talk to me, but either I mow it on the day he's not there, or he's busy doing his thing. I try not to bother him...he's got a full plate as it is, but today we had a good talk about Wednesday. Bible study took and odd turn last week and I kind of wonder what's gonna happen on Wednesday. Maybe someday soon, I can share.
But not today.
Anyway, another guy, one who I've been praying for who isn't at the Rescue Mission anymore stopped by. He told us he was driving down Washington when something told him he needed to go up one street and down Jefferson. He saw us standing there talking not five minutes after the first guy walked by. At first, he wasn't going to stop. But then he decided to. And we got to pray for something for him that's going on in his life.
When he told us the story about going out of his way, I made sure to tell him that was a "God thing". First off, I had to mow the lawn. I wasn't going to because my knee hurts so bad. Then Karl had to come out and chat with me on his way home. And then dude had to go out of his way.
Sometimes you gotta play hurt. When you do, you run into some divine encounters that you wouldn't miss for the world. I don't know a lot, but I know that the ministry God has asked me to join Him in is a God thing too.
If it wasn't, there is now way what happened this week would have.
To God be the glory!
