The Declaration they made.

Tomorrow is Independence Day.  It's the day we celebrate the birthplace of the idea of the United States of America.  Constitution Day comes later this year.  On the 4th, we celebrate the document signed that signified that Americans wanted to be a free people, under self-rule and free from the tyranny of their king.

In the opening salvo of the document, they clearly point out that the rights they believe all men should have are given by their Creator.  According to the law of non-contradiction, the truths they hold to be "self-evident" (great words, are they not?) about how the Creator of the Universe blessed them with being created equal, says that for these words to be actually true, the Creator must be.  He cannot not be and have the Declaration of Independence be a truthful document.

Our freedoms in America hinge on that document.  The people then fought a war over it.  We've been fighting wars ever since to keep and protect those freedoms.  Our money says that we trust in God.

If you follow the argument to the logical conclusion, it seems to me that the Creator would have left some sort of ideals for men to follow for them to draw the conclusions that they were in fact, created, and that the Creator had the power to bestow the rights they referenced in their letter to the king.

To say that America was not founded on Judeo-Christian traditions and beliefs cannot be true while having the Declaration of Independence true as well.

Because God is Creator, because He made all men equal, and He game them certain rights, then it stands to reason that God also gave mankind a moral code to live by.  It starts out with the Golden Rule, which is actually found in the Sermon on the Mount in the Bible.  It goes from there to the Ten Commandments, to the Law given to the Hebrews by God through Moses.  While we live in an age of grace, God still admonished us time and again about sexual sins and the immoral things we should not tolerate.

As we celebrate our freedoms tomorrow, please take time out and recognize where those blessings come from; the God who gave them to us, and thank Him for showing us more grace as a people than we deserve.
