And then God showed up...
I don't always know what to expect.
Check that....I NEVER know what to expect.
Take this, for instance.... while minding my own business today....still small voice said "Make meatloaf for dinner." That was last night. And again today, while on the way home from taking Miss June to her gig at the Wal-Mart. So I stop at the Smith's. As I'm getting out of the car, I get a message from a friend who told me she has to have her truck towed to the mechanic. I no sooner get out of the car, turn around, and see a wrecker loading up a car not ten feet in front of me. Just a little reminder of what God is doing in my life. Keep that in mind.
My day started out early with some shopping at Kohls in Clinton. There isn't one in my metro area, so I have to go elsewhere to spend my money. We had a coupon. Never take Miss June shopping. For someone that can't walk very well, you get her behind a buggy and she's like Mario Andretti. Anyway, I got two dress shirts for $15. For both. And on the way home, on the road back to O-town at 10 in the morning there were two cars. Us and the guy from Oregon. It was the first of about eight such sightings. Not that it means anything. Nor does, I hope for me, the MOMO S license plate I saw, or the Indiana one. I'm not interested.
OK, so make meatloaf. I forget oats. No big deal, we should have oats at home. If you're wondering what I'm talking about at this point, try the Quaker Oats meatloaf recipe. It's really simple and always very moist. But hit the cupboards...no oats. And I forgot to stop and buy gas for the car so I decide to take the truck and go to Winco Foods on 12th Street. I like the bread they sell there and we needed bread.
So yesterday, my friend, mentor, and pastor asked me to check in with the husband of a young couple that attends our church. These kids are trying very hard to rebuild their lives and have a very young daughter. I heard from him last night and let the pastor know they were doing well. He asked me to extend an offer for a ride to church tomorrow and asked me to get with him tonight. Well, I did.
As I was walking into the Winco, they were walking out. Had a little divine appointment with these kids, but not sure as to the why. I don't argue. All I know is that God was trying to prove a point with, of all things, meatloaf.
If I hadn't wanted to make meatloaf, I wouldn't have seen the vehicle being loaded onto the wrecker at the same time I got the message about a vehicle being towed to a mechanic. If I hadn't forgotten oats, I wouldn't have been at the Winco at exactly the right time to help these kids out. And offer them a ride to church.
My day started off with not a nice conversation with Miss June about a promise God made to me. She's frustrated and maybe doesn't quite believe. Well, the answer to that came about five minutes ago and if you look at my Facebook page, you'll see it.
God showed up. He maybe didn't do what I wanted Him to do, but I did what He wanted me to do. I saw Him at work in the circumstances of my life, which brings reassurance that He's also working where I can't see right now to make things the way He wants them.
And we had meat loaf for dinner.
