Read it, live it
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Psalm 119:105
I'm reading, albeit slowly, a book called Jesus Club.
It's a book about how this guy started a ministry at the high school he graduated from and how it grew. Yesterday, I read a story about how he was passing a skateboard shop, needing $200 more dollars for something God told him to do and he heard God telling him to go to the skateboard shop. After a brief argument, he gave in, flipped a u-turn and went in.
Turns out, he'd met the lady who owned said shop before, while standing in line at an amusement park near their home and had enough of a conversation that she remembered him. He told her of his need for $200. She started crying because God had laid it on her heart that she needed to take $200 with her to work because she was gonna meet someone who needed it.
Great story. I love how God's people, when they yield to Him, get stuff done.
I prepared today's Bible study lesson yesterday morning. After I had printed it out, I saw a suggested post where some woman was talking about the very Scripture verse that was the subject of the lesson this morning.
God just sometimes overwhelms me.
I went to work. I needed to not stay at work, and I needed to go get chinese food. I hate spending money these days and I wanted to make zucchini bread so I stopped at the commissary. I was going to get chicken to make chinese food. I got reminded that I needed to go "get" chinese food.
So I did.
While waiting for my #1 with hot and sour soup (I always order egg drop. Hot and sour came out of my mouth, but it wasn't me saying it if that makes any sense), I couldn't help but overhear part of a conversation two young women were having about God.
One mentioned something about how many festivals the Israelites had, and the one who had her back to me said this:
"It's so nice to have the freedom in Jesus to do what we should. I think that's just the most beautiful thing."
If you'd have taken me up on my invitation to church (it's a standing invitation!) you'd know my Pastor is preaching on our freedom in Christ, and I've blogged about the freedom from the bondage of sin in my own life recently.
Sometimes, you just gotta listen and obey.
