Where God leads, He provides and me mastering technology

I saw this quote on a couple of plaques in the Hobby Lobby store the other day.  It's a paraphrase of Isaiah 58:11, which reads this way:

The LORD will Guide you always;
He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scotched land
and He will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail

And this week, I've seen this happen in my life.  Except I think, and I don't think it a stretch to say this:  That He's providing for where I'm going, not for where I'm at.

I explained earlier about the Chevy and how I came to own the RAV4.  I really like this thing, BTW.  It's at the shop tonight having an item installed that I never knew I couldn't live without until I saw somebody not live without it.  I sprung for the remote start and the dealer is paying 33% of the cost.

I need to interrupt this story to remind you of something else:  about a year ago, I got coerced into rotating to day shift every other month.  Starting Monday, that madness is hopefully going to come to a close and I'll stay on swings for a while.  It means I get to be a participant in my Bible Study group on a regular instead of semi-regular basis and it's also, coupled with the savings on the insurance I spoke about yesterday, going to offest the car payment substantially.

I kind of realized last Sunday that the time for me to own the Chevrolet was over.  It's lasted a while and while I had it, some people got to where they needed to get either by me taking them or loaning it to them.  It's 17 years old, which isn't bad for a car these days.  It should have had more miles to go in my estimation, but who am I to decide such things.  But where I'm headed, it wasn't going to serve me well anymore.

Enter God.

I got some great advice and input from a Toyota owner that helped me go in the RAV4 direction.  I was thinking something like a more used, and much older Hyundai which I was told was "ugly".  I would have bought something substantially cheaper, but sometimes that's not the way to go.  I did buy a newer car with a warranty, a lot of cool bells and whistles, and the latest thing I found out it has is an XM satellite tuner.

I can hook my phone up to the car, too, which amazes me, and I'll get to that part of my story in a minute.

I know a lot of times, people think I take God's providence in my life too seriously, but not me.  I got the interest rate of a lifetime (for me and what I've been through).  In the process I got the interest rate on a credit card that was half the existing credit card I have to have for things like renting a car when I go see my kid in Chicago.  The car cost me nothing out of pocket.  I was expecting to put down a small payment toward it that I didn't have to.

Then my insurance went down a LOT.  That's going to help with the payment, as I said, and the timing of me going back to nights just in time to start making the payments.  A lot of things happened around this one event.  I think I got the right everything this time.

Yesterday, I tried using my phone to send my insurance agent a picture of the registration of the RAV.  I didn't have stellar luck with this, but finally got the photo emailed to him.  I struggled with that same stuff on Thursday night at the dealership in trying to get the insurance proof emailed to the salesman.  That never worked.

And then there's the process of hooking up my phone to the car.  It does some things.  It doesn't do everything I'd like, but I'm figuring out which things are which and how to work around them.

And then there's the printer my kid gave me.  It's wireless, and last night, I was so proud of figuring out how to use my phone to print a document for my insurance agent, sign it, scan it, and mail it back to him.  I figured it out, and did all that right from my phone.

It was a sense of accomplishment to do that.  I felt like I won a small victory over the smarter-than-me stuff that I own.

Well those are my stories.  Hope things are going well for all y'all too!
