Friends forever
I have several forever friends. They're the kind of friends you have that will be your friends for life, no matter how long it's been since you've talked.
I spent the weekend with some of them this weekend. It's amazing to me how friends can not see each other for years and then pick up right where you left off. We all had a lot to catch up with each other on, and it was fun to reminisce over some of the good times we had.
The friend that put us up for the weekend is one I've known longer than either of us would like to admit. I remember when he first met his wife and they've been married long enough that they have great grand-children now. I'm still waiting on my first grandchild. They have a herd.
They're retired now, the both of them and they live in their dream home in central Utah. It's an amazing place and I'm so happy for my friends. One of the guys now lives out of state but drove down to spend some time with us. I grew up next door to his wife when I was a kid. It's a small world.
Another of our friends lives in Tooele. He drove down, too. And of course, my brother from another mother was there. He put the whole thing together. Now it's my turn to figure out what we're gonna do next.
But still, I got to see how my buddy's plans and dreams for his place came true. He's living the life he wanted to after retirement and I'm so happy for him. He's doing what he wanted to in retirement, and it's working out well for he and his wife. All the working, planning, and saving resulted in what he and his wife wanted and it's so nice to see them so happy and thriving in a new community.
I'm thankful today that for all we've been through, that we're all still those kinds of friends. Tomorrow I'm calling another friend from the Guard. I have something of his that I need to get to him and I'm hoping he'll answer the phone or at least return the call.
I'm sure he will. Because that's what friends do.
