What he said....

I'm old, but back in the day, we used to use the expression "what he said" to indicate agreement with someone else. I know it's still used today, but not as frequently as it used to be. Last night at our Bible study we were discussing a portion of the Gospel of John and it's an exchange between Thomas and the Ressurected Christ in a room. This from the Gospel of John, chapter 20:24-29 24 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus[a]), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” 26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” 28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” One of the most stunning statements in the history of ever is uttered by Thomas when he says to Jesus, "My Lord and my God". Our pastor mentioned that the word used here is the name Yahweh, the Aramaic word for God. It's the highest name for God. Two things struck me about this passage: Thomas' confession of who Jesus is, and the fact that Jesus does not rebuke him, but accepts Thomas confession of what he said about Jesus. I think that's probably one of the most important truths in Scripture and I love that Jesus goes on further to say that blessed are we who have not seen, but yet believed. I hope that if you're not among the blessed that do, that you'll give some serious consideration to the exchange recorded in Scirpture and witnessed by many, between Thomas and Jesus. As for me....What he said.
