“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Jesus the Way to the Father
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” John 14:1-6 (NIV)
I had a short discussion with my son the other night about life. He finds me, in his words, arrogant, because I hold to Biblical truth instead of the ideas that he has. He said something that gave me pause, and I asked him who he stole the idea from. I told him that I expected him to be a critical thinker, to listen to people he disagrees with and to try to understand their point of view. The conversation devolved from there, to a place where he was telling me what I thought.
My son refuses to read the Bible. Instead, he thinks he knows what it says because of what other people have told him. I challenge him to read it for himself so he has, at least a point of reference to what I actualliy do think.
We are entitled to our own opinions. What we are not entitled to is our own facts. And when it comes to truth, Jesus clearly tells us that He IS the Truth. When you have the Truth as your truth, you have truth, and historical facts, on your side.
Read it, live it
Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105 I'm reading, albeit slowly, a book called Jesus Club. It's a book about how this guy started a ministry at the high school he graduated from and how it grew. Yesterday, I read a story about how he was passing a skateboard shop, needing $200 more dollars for something God told him to do and he heard God telling him to go to the skateboard shop. After a brief argument, he gave in, flipped a u-turn and went in. Turns out, he'd met the lady who owned said shop before, while standing in line at an amusement park near their home and had enough of a conversation that she remembered him. He told her of his need for $200. She started crying because God had laid it on her heart that she needed to take $200 with her to work because she was gonna meet someone who needed it. Great story. I love how God's people, when they yield to Him, get stuff done. I prepared today's Bibl...
