It's not always easy to hear
A lot going on in the world to be sure. There are wars. There are rumors of wars. There is economic turmoil. It's just getting harder and harder to stay afloat, it seems. The time just flies, and here we are, over half way through 2023.
Among the distressful things to me this week was news that my favorite baseball team, the Dodgers, caved to some tremendous(/) pressure and decided to invite a group of men, dressed in drag, as nuns, to receive an award from the team over the weekend. Had they done the right thing in the first place, I wouldn't even be writing this, but some things just go too far and this was one.
The LGBTQ+ community is not, by population numbers, a large group in America. Yet here we are, with June being called "pride month". And many corporations are on board in what they see is a move that makes "smart business", I suppose. I guess it is...until it's not anyway.
There's backlash for this starting to happen. Bud Light found that out. So did Target. The Dodger fan base consists of a lot of Roman Catholics and I'm sure the outrage beforehand will be more than outpaced by the backlash of actually going through with the ceremony.
A photo posted online showed a sparsely filled Dodger stadium. Any true Dodger fan knows that the stadium usually doesn't fill up until about the third inning anyway, but I can't help but wonder if some were purposely late.
As for me, I have a dirty, beat up LA cap that's seen better days. It's going to be neatly stuffed into a mailer and sent to the Dodgers front office. Even as a non-believer, I couldn't condone this act because of the things the drag queen nuns represent. I imagine there will be contrition at some point by the Dodgers. That's apparently already started by them planning a Christian and family values night or something, but it doesn't make up for the bad decisions made by the organization in the first place.
God's word tells us that Pride comes before destruction and that God opposes the proud. So pride month, good luck with that.
As for me, I guess I need to find a new team.
