Did you know?

Did you know that Social Security recipients and Disabled Veterans receiving payments from the VA have not received a COLA for two years?  If you look at my facebook page, you'll see a link from yahoo news that talks about how the Republicans blocked a bill to give seniors $250 one time payments because we can't afford them.

This is the same Republican party which gave a letter to the Senate Majority Leader informing him that unless the Bush tax cuts were continued for ALL Americans, they would in effect block all legislation from proceeding through the Senate.

Our own Senator supported this move to get tax cuts for the top 2% of this country, yet it's OK for our veterans, our seniors, and our federal employees to sacrifice.  For what?

They keep saying these top 2% are responsible for job creation.  We've had this tax policy for ten years now.  Where are the jobs?  Seriously, where are the jobs?

These are the same Republicans who don't, as a group, support extending employment benefits.  At almost 10% unemployment, what jobs are these people supposed to take?  I'm just curious about that.  I sincerely believe there are those that take advantage of government support.  I've seen some of those people first hand.  It became evident during the Katrina debacle.  My sister and I had an interesting conversation about this at Thanksgiving when talking about healthcare.  One reason she was against healthcare is that we that work have to pay for those that won't.  There are people like that but I believe that they are the exception, not the rule.

Folks, where is the outrage?  I don't get that we're asking groups of people to sacrifice while others don't.  Our military and their families sacrifice every day.  Seniors, Federal Employees and disabled vets being asked to sacrifice but not the rich, who would see a 4.5% increase in their tax rates.  Is that unreasonable for anyone making $250,000 or more.  Really?

If the tax cuts are in themselves allowed to expire, the tax rate for the lowest bracket increases from 10% to 15%.  I can see that 5% being a burden, but why not?  Seems to me that when we were paying these tax rates, things were pretty good.  The government was running a surplus.  We were actually paying down the debt and had a balanced budget.

And, our president, in my opinion, folded like a cheap lawn chair.  I don't think he has faith in the people of this country.  Why not be honest and ask everyone to sacrifice until we can right the ship?  Nobody was asked to make a financial sacrifice to pay for two wars.  Why not?  In WW2, all Americans sacrificed together for the greater good.

I agree our Government needs to overhaul its' priorities.  We need budget cuts. We need leadership.  We need serious choices and leaders that listen.

Get involved, folks.  It's time to e-mail your congressmen and senators.  Obstructionism is not governance.  It's time for those that govern this way to hold their breath until they turn blue and pass out and leave them behind.

If you don't agree with me, tell me why.  Make a good case for rich people paying less taxes to grow the economy because it's been tried for ten years and not worked.  Convince me.  Give me some facts.
Tell me why these policies are good ideas.  Even the teabagger Jim Demint thinks this deal sucks.

Curious to know what y'all have to say about this...
