just an uneventful day.
Well, I went out and did my part today to help the economy. I went to one store to get something and they didn't have everything I needed. I went to another store and they didn't have everything I needed either, so I had to make a second trip to the first store to finally get everything I needed.
I went to the grocery store. Today, butter was on sale for $2. Last night, the same butter was $2.88. Just my luck, but prime rib was on sale for $3.99 a pound so Christmas dinner is tucked nicely away in the freezer.
I did some Christmas shopping today, too. I'm nowhere near done, but I'm closer today than I was. Progress. I like this time of year because people are more friendly. A very nice young woman at JC Penney could tell I was lost, so she helped me find what I needed. They had exactly what I was looking for and I was surprised at how affordable it was. I paid half of what I thought I would for what I wanted.
You wouldn't think finding a gingerbread man cookie cutter would be that hard at Christmastime. Wrong. I had to go to three different stores to find one. Most of the things I bought were for baking. I'm getting my holiday bake on starting tomorrow. It was supposed to start today. I attempted to start yesterday but I have this problem. I was making cookies from a cookie press and the cookie sheets I have are non-stick. That's great except for one problem. The stupid cookies won't stick to the cookie sheets. I will figure it out, though.
Tomorrow I'm making meringue cookies and mushrooms. The mushrooms are to decorate a bruche de' noel cake I'm going to try to make for our dinner at church on Sunday. It's going to be a busy day Friday and Saturday. I want to get all my cookies baked for my neighbor gifts this weekend.
I have this cookbook my mom used in high school. She gave me her old one and after years of abuse it fell apart. I was lucky. I found a cheap one on e-bay for $45. I've seen these cookbooks listed for as much as $150. It's the Betty Crocker new picture cookbook. It's a funny little book but the recipes are great. I'm making all kinds of cookies I've never made before. I've always wanted to make them but never did. I'm going to make some holiday bread to go with the cookies, too.
Well, that's all for me. Hope you're having a wonderful holiday season.
Oh, before I go. This week's random theme in my life comes from the Bible. It's the book of Colossians.
