A little class goes a long way
I took a stewardship class last fall. It's kind of changed my way of thinking about things and how I care for and about them. It's not news. I've talked about it before. The changes in me though really kind of surprise me.
Here's what's new around here:
I was getting a haircut on Tuesday and I noticed the gal that cut it had parted it from right to left. I liked the look a lot more than what I'd been doing with it. Believe it or not, I do brush it daily, but it gets messed up. It doesn't wanna go where I'm wanting it to go. It goes all over the place, but for some reason I decided this look was one that I liked, so to keep it, I bought some hair pomade (yup, I'm a Dapper Dan man) for the first time in my life. No more unruly muppet look.
I just gotta face the fact that long hair is not flattering on me and that 80's part it in the middle and feather it back look just isn't coming back...and for good reason.
I had a brief visit from Miss June this week and she's working diligently on cleaning out and up the things of hers that are all over the house. Her daughter is coming over sometime in the next week to finally haul off the rest of her things. It's been five years on Sunday. It's way past time.
Speaking of that, the home re-do is in full swing. I've been fixing stuff like crazy, whenever and wherever I find it. Today's DIY was repairing a screen that had come apart. Job done! I'll put it up tomorrow.
My patio is cleaned off. I cleaned it off and tossed a bunch of stuff. Tossed a bunch of stuff is a great thing. I also cleaned out the garage. Two full loads of stuff to the transfer station. To be fair, though, it's stuff that wasn't mine. There was stuff I've been meaning to toss from the church and it finally got done today. A half-dozen round tables, a wooden bookshelf thingie, and an old BBQ were among the stuff. For my part, I got rid of the broken silver big screen that's been living there for about two years now.
Freshening up and fixing up things is very cathartic.
Next project on the list is the awful, hideous, nasty kitchen. My kitchen is ugly. It's gonna be less ugly in a couple of weeks. First up is nailing the new trim to the kitchen doors. Right now they're flat pieces of plywood, but with a little trim and the aid of a pneumatic finish nailer, they're gonna transform into something else. I'm also gonna finally use some of those woodworking tools I had to have and put false fronts on the kitchen drawers to give things a fresher look. Get that done and then the whole thing gets a fresh coat of white paint. Add a new light fixture over the sink and it'll be a lot nicer than it was at Christmas time.
A little change is good for the soul and this place is finally starting to reflect what life could be instead of being a museum to what was.
