God in the details

I know I don't write like I used to and today isn't going to be an exception.  I will tell you about my day though, because it's just kind of typical for a day for me.

I woke up at eight with having my phone ring.  It was the immigrant letting me know she's still alive.  She was potting plants all night last night, but not here.  That's probably a good thing because I ain't havin' that mess all over this house.

I got out of bed about a half-hour later.  Dogs had to go, so I stumbled out of bed, figuring that I needed to start my day.  After taking care of the muttleys, it was time to turn my attention to the house.  One of the cats got sick, so I had to clean that up.  Having animals entails chores around here, like sweeping and stuff, so I got that done.  After that, it was time to update the menofvisionutah.org website (shameless plug).  When that was done, sometime after about nine-thirty, it was time to head to my friend's house to lend a helping hand.

My friend is a great guy but not mechanically inclined.  I can't do what he can, but that's the neat thing about God's world...we make up the body of Christ, and this one has this gift, that one has another gift, and when you put the whole thing together, it just works.  I tried to encourage my friend about doing this particular task, but yeah, hey I had trouble with it and I make a living fixing stuff.  I was glad to help out and together,  we got the job done.

I have to stop and set up the next part of the story by backing up a bit.  I looked at my Facebook page before I got out of bed and this morning there were a few things about guarding my tongue. When I see stuff twice, I pay closer attention and having seen it yesterday, too, I figured today is a good day to be quiet.  I'm taking a chance in just telling you about my day, and there actually is a point to the story, which I'll share at the end.

I stopped at Harmon's in Roy to get a couple of donuts.  They have buttercream maple bars there and I really like maple buttercream donuts.  I got an apple fritter too and when I was eating it on the way home, I bit my tongue.

You have to see the humor in that.

When I got home, I needed to change a bit of information on the website to make it more clear.  Having done that, it was time to turn my attention to the dogs.  They're old.  Katie is really old and she's only good for a trip around the circle.  We went a little further than that and I thought I was gonna lose her.  She's happily snoring under the bed right now.

Bucky and I played ball.  He's not as spry as he used to be and loses interest far before he used to.

I had dinner.  Leftovers from yesterday.  They will be dinner tomorrow too but that's OK.  I'm learning that if I can't cook for one, then I can eat leftovers and only have to cook a couple or three times a week.  It's working out, but there's a lot of repeat on the menu.  I'm not starving by any means.

I did my devotional.  I like this little book.  That's all I'm gonna say about that.

I told you there's a point to this story and it's this:  My day was just a day, probably a lot like yours.  You had things to do.  You may have had to work today.  I didn't.  But God found things for me to do today to keep my hands busy and my mind occupied.  It may not sound like much of a day to you, but you'll never know what a blessing it was to me.
