Everything is a fight....
A few months back, I broke a crown and had to have it replaced. Like a dummy, I didn't check with a dentist to see if he took my insurance. The first one I called said they could get me in the next day and when I told them what insurance I had, they didn't tell me they weren't preferred providers.
Such is life. I had the money to pay out of pocket but they did tell me they'd bill my insurances for me. They only billed one and I sort of forgot about it after that. I'm only gonna get a couple of hundred back but right now, a couple of hundred will come in handy with the holidays approaching and my retirement still in an interim pay status.
About a month ago, I got the notices from my primary insurance that they didn't pay. No surprises there; crowns aren't covered. There's a lot of reasons I have the supplemental dental insurance. But nothing from that carrier. I tried logging into my account several times without success and just kind of forgot about the whole thing until today. And that's when the battle started....
They've changed things since I've logged in, so I had to start over and re-register. I can't use my old user name but their new system just knows it's there and won't send me a password reset. A little note told me that I had to start over-over, so I tried. Several times.
The biggest fight was that it wanted me to fill in the block that fills in your postal address. It said if my address didn't come up (and it didn't several times), that I could fill in the address myself. I did, and then the screen kept telling me I needed to fill in the block with the postal address lookup tool, and even when I did, it kept telling me I didn't.
As I said, everything is a fight. It finally did recognize my postal address after putting it in a couple of different ways, and finally I was able to re-create my online account.
Next fight was that you can't just submit a copy of the bill as a claim. Nor can you personally submit a claim online. OK, so it ain't like my flex spending account...I understand that. I printed out my ID card and a claim form and stopped in to see the dentist's people. They were great. They took my ID card copy and said they'd file the claim for me. That's a happy thing. After the battle of getting that far, I was glad that the downhill side was gonna be easy.
I get frustrated with technology sometimes. I think sometimes we rely on it too much. When it works well, it's a good tool. When it doesn't...well....that's a different story.
