Lies and the liars that tell them

Much in the news these days about lies and truth.  I don't often comment on politics and today's not going to be an exception.  I am going to comment on court case though.

My son and I often engage in conversation about current events.  While we don't agree on a lot of things, we are able to have conversations about them in reasonable ways.  Sometimes we learn something we didn't know when we have them.  Sometimes, I can tell by a phrase he uses who in his sphere of influence.  When the company Dominion sued everybody who was spreading what they claimed as false information for defamation, I told my son to keep an eye on this court case because the truth was gonna come out of it.

Each person they sued is entitled to a process known as "discovery".  And Dominion is entitled to their own "discovery", and it appears that they've discovered quite a bit.  And a bit of what they've discovered is that people other people really trusted misled them knowing the whole time they were doing it, for the sake of making money.

Jesus had a lot to say about money.  He also had some things to say about lies.  For instance, He called the Satan a liar and the father of lies.  Nothing new under the sun, there.  I'm reading a book about lies men believe, called Lies Men Believe.  It's a topic we are going to tackle at our next church men's breakfast.  I think it's important to look at what lies we believe about ourselves, the world, and of most importance, the lies we believe about God.

At one time or another, I think every man has been lied to in a way that profoundly affected a part of his life.  Maybe someone told you, "you're stupid", or "You'll never amount to anything."  If someone hadn't lied to me growing up, I wouldn't have the slightest idea that someone with a different skin color was somehow a lesser person, or that women were inferior to a man.

We get lied to a lot.  But Christians have a blessed assurance that others don't.  We have the Truth, and the Truth has set us free.  We have a standard of truth to measure things by, in God's Word.  We have the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth

So remember today, if you need a word of encouragement, that God says a lot about who you are in Christ, and that's to be believed far more than the lies the world tells you.
