My to do list

My to do list went from short to huge yesterday afternoon.  I started on it first thing this morning.

I hate talking to people on the phone, but that was my first thing on the to do list.  I had to call the bank and start the process of undoing a short sale on the house.  The fight to keep Lark Circle Farm is ON!   Fortunately, I think things haven't gone far enough that it cannot be stopped.  There will be more phone calls on Monday but that's OK.  The blessings of last week will help make that a reality.

I did absolutely nothing to the yard last fall.  I did rake up the leaves in the lower back yard so the yard would look presentable to potential buyers, so that's one chore that doesn't need doing.  The back 40, well, it's a bona-fide mess.  The immigrant and I just had a conversation about it and I think we're both in agreement that a healthy dose of Round-up is called for.  I can't burn it off (stupid fire code...), so I gotta hit it with a herbicide.

I need the weather to start cooperating to do this, though.

The flower beds are a priority.  Especially the one on the south side of the house.  That's OK, a couple of truckloads of compost and some weeding and the flower beds will be better than new.  The flower beds in the back yard are another matter.  When I cut the fitzers back a couple of years ago to make said flower beds, I found snow on the mountain ground cover had been planted there.  Snow on the mountain is an effective ground cover and it's darn near impossible to kill.  Again, round up, but carefully applied. There are too many beautiful perennials planted in the flower beds, so I have to be extra careful.

The strawberry patch is another weedy area.  The strawberries are clinging to life, but don't do well where we planted them because I let the weeds grow and haven't figured out an effective way to keep it watered.  That's on my list of things to fix.

The winter was not kind to my hammock.  One of the posts fell down so that needs to be mended.  I need to find a shade grass to augment the grass planted in the back 40 under the apple trees and fight the battle of those flower beds again.  I didn't prune the apple trees, either, last fall.

Then there's the 6 year battle for the raspberry vines.  The raspberries grow, but not like they should have.  The big problem with the back 40 is that it was overgrown with weeds for so many years that all kinds of persistent weeds have grown.  It didn't help that in my funk last summer that I did basically nothing in the yard except mow the grass.

I have a gate that needs to be mended (OK, constructed), too.  I have the materials to do that in the garage.  I just need to do it.

Then there's the north side of the house, and the jungle that those little flower beds are.  Most of the sucker trees have been removed but there's one that's growing right next to the house.  It's last day is coming soon.  The grass in the flower beds needs to be killed and they need to be cleaned out.  They're not high on the list, but they are on the list.

And then there's the rose bush.  Last year, it was so wet and the rose bush was so heavy it fell sideways. Now I have roses growing both up and out.  I'm going to cut that sucker back to parade rest....

I'm so very blessed that I did NOT sell my tractor and the attachments.  I did blow up the engine on the tiller last summer though, so I'm in the market for a used one.  Thank goodness for e-bay.

The pool will need to be dealt with.  It needs a new pump and filter and new hoses.  I'm opting for a sand filter this time.  I like the pool.

That's just the yard.  The house itself is another matter.  Last fall, the paint on the exterior started flaking so the outside of the house needs to be painted again.  Hey, it happens, right?  And then there's the garage.... we won't even go there.

And then there's the inside.  My house is tidy and clean but it needs to be spring cleaned.  It ain't "Wendi clean", but I don't think any amount of effort on my part could ever pass that test.  I'm gonna give it a shot, though.

I have a lot to do.  No more sitting around, wondering about this or that.  It's time to get to work.

Oh, by the way, did I mention that Wendi is coming home?

That explains the to do list.

  2. If all you had to do was wish for something and you would have it,life would be pretty boring, wouldn't it? God placed barriers between us and what we want, so we can enjoy interesting and satisfying lives. God hid our biggest rewards behind the highest barriers - our deepest
fears. God wants us to face our fears, and hold ground in their presence, and let them go, and that's how we get out biggest rewards.
