It gets weirder

Life is just funny.  I hope you'll see the humor in the short story I have to tell today.

Today, we (being my Pastor and I) got together to pray for our nation.  The National Day of Prayer isn't until May but organizers thought it would be a good idea for churches to start early this year.  My pastor decided he would, so he opened the doors of the church so people could join together today and pray.  it was in the newspaper and everything.

This country is in trouble.  And on top of everything, with the posturing and saber rattling, we're headed for a re-start of the cold war.  Christians are being beat down in the media and for some reason if the is country still trusts God, it sure seems we tolerate a lot of hate FOR God.  When people who mention God are booed, we have some problems.  It seems that prayer for the country is a good idea.

So I showed up.  That meant he and I showed up.  And we prayed for our country.  You should too.

Anyway, as I was pulling up to the church I saw some people walking out of the new building that went up across the street.  There is some new signage on the building and it says one word:

PORTLAND

I laughed.  Karl laughed.  You've been reading this thing long enough.  You should laugh, too.

On my way home, I was listening to my Christian radio station and the guy talking mentioned the "Woman at the Well" from the Bible.  That reference will forever be in my mind linked to someone I used to know.  It made me smile and that's it.  As I was turning from Harrison Blvd. to 36th Street on the way home from the church, there was a car in the lane to the right of me with an Oregon license plate.  Yup, I still see 'em.  Not as much as I used to, but they're still around.

And for what it's worth, the car in front of me in the turn lane has Mass. license plates.  There are a lot of visitors in Ogden.

I just thought you'd find the Portland thing funny and hope you'll take the praying thing seriously.  We're in trouble, gang.  And if you read your Bible instead of letting it take up space on a shelf, you'll see we're headed down a familiar path that nations that turn their back on the Almighty have been on before.
