Kingdom things
Originally this post was going to be about "Mrs. Somebody" but wisdom dictates that I just leave that one alone. Besides, things are going all right; not perfect by any means, but all right. We're scraping by. We could use a little more ching around here but getting by on what we have seems to be working well for now.
We're well blessed around here, by and large. We have pets that are a blessing. My sis just and to put down her pup. Sad. Katie won't be much longer for the world. I can see it in her little face. She's as sweet as ever but still, she's 11 and that's old for a Beagle. I love that dumb dog.
I told you the reincarnation of Snot is with us. Still trying to figure out that one. He's fun, though. I will go before Miss June gets rid of that pussycat.
That pretty much gets you caught up with the "this and that" stuff. Let's talk about Kingdom things.
You never know what you're going to say that will pique someone's interest in Kingdom things. A friend of mine has been trying to share the gospel with his exrfor a while now, with varying degrees of success. I ran into her the other day and she asked me how I was.
"Better than I deserve to be". (I had no earthly idea this was a Dave Ramsey-ism). I'm well blessed and even though I struggle, I haven't been given what I deserve. She asked my friend when she saw him later on what I meant by that.
So he explained why we don't deserve God's love or blessings and why He gives them to us anyway through believing on Jesus. For all the terrible things I've done, I've been truly blessed. I've been forgiven and although there are consequences for the sins of the past that will linger for a long, long time, God's grace covers them and if Jesus doesn't come before I go, when I go I will see Him on His throne in Heaven. I know that.
Do you?
Those are Kingdom things. So is helping out with a ministry that I got involved with. It's Kingdom work. It's funny to me that one thing rings true... there is always enough time to do God's work. I'm busy but there seems lately to be just enough time to get done what needs to be done and plenty of time for the things I do to further the Kingdom.
I'm reading a book on evangelism. It's helpful but sometimes people do the evangelism for you. A friend of mine who doesn't read the blog told me a story worth re-telling. He went through a rough patch a few years ago and another co-worker told him last Friday that during that time lots of people were praying for him. As he relates the story to me, he tells me he gets emotional about that kind of stuff; that people care for and invest in his life, because he feels he doesn't deserve it. He tells me it's kind of humbling that people he's really not that close with outside work care about him.
If you open the door, I'm going to walk in. I explained to him that I understood perfectly how he felt because that's a perfect description of God's grace. We don't deserve it. We can't earn it. We'll never be good enough to get it on our own. But He gives it to us because He loves us. Christ died for our sins so that we can find that love and forgiveness of our sins through HIm. It's humbling to think that He did that for me and you.
Yeah, I get exactly what my friend was saying.
Because they're Kingdom things.
If you don't understand what I mean, take a minute and look up Matthew 6:33. It's the verse for the week!
