Buck

You know the story.  Abraham is promised a child by Sarah.  She's old, way past child bearing years.  They take matters into their own hands.  Abraham has a child with Sarah's handmaiden, Hagar named Ishmael.  Bad things happen.  And then God ultimately makes good on His promise and Isaac is born.

God's plans can't be thwarted.

Bucket is my dog.  He's not always been my dog, but long before I knew God as I do these days, something told me to spend the last $136 I had to my name to adopt him.  He's run away several times; he's friendly and curious.  I gave him to the ex-wife, who gave him to her dad, who gave him back to me, so he's been on two road trips....one to Indiana, one home from Indiana.

Bucket is my dog, because he's supposed to be my dog.  No matter what has happened, Bucket has been from the time I adopted him, my dog.

He ate a hole in my brand new bedspread and I wanted to murder him, but he's still my dog.  Always will be.  Because that's what God wants.  He's run away far too many times for me to get him back the way I have.  The last time, he was taken overnight to the Ogden valley, where the lady called the dog catcher to come get him the next day.  I found him running down Harrison Blvd once at four a.m after I'd accidentally chained up Katie after working a 12 hour day.  Katie always comes back.  Bucket, well, he's been a challenge, but I always get him back.

I was thinking about that tonight.  A lot has happened this week.  The reasons for the impetus on redecorating the house became clear last Saturday night, when my friends from Homedale Road were in Dale's home, with their granddaughter in tow.

Everything was done to keep them from being here.  They were here anyway, because that's how God wanted it. Boy is there a story to tell in there.

And in the midst of living it, I forgot my houseguests live on Homedale Road.

Sometimes God wants things for us that are gonna come to pass, no matter how badly we try to mess it up.  Watch this space for news.  God's up to something.
