The word of the day is:
When I got my new toolbox at work, it came with a top that was never going to hold up to the things aircraft mechanics subject their toolboxes to. I chose to paint mine with chalkboard paint. It's black so it hides dirt, grease, and hydraulic fluid stains well. It also functions as a way for me to leave notes on something I'm working on that the other shift has to finish. I also have the words to the title of this post written on my box, and change the word every day.
Today's word was: Unusual.
I had a really weird day today. It was like I was there, but not all there. I've been under the weather lately. The cause of my ailment finally showed itself, and now it's just a time of recovery from it. But today, it was like I was really tired. I got through the day, but I was clearly not myself.
As the day went on, I got better, but I missed seeing a nut I was looking for on the end of the clamp I needed to install. Or having to ask someone how many foot pounds 2400 inch pounds is. Duh......simple math.
We overcome. We adapt. We work through it. And in it, one of the guys told me it was pleasant to work with. What a nice compliment.
Still though, unusual things are happening to me and around me. That's not bad. It's just unusual, or irregular if you will. I remember tonight that when you pray, irregular things happen regularly. I pray. They do.
Try this one on for size: I was griping the other day about the pussycat I took to the pound. I had a voice mail on my phone today for June from Weber County Animal Services. They wanted June to know they had _______ and she could come and pick him up.
Weber County puts pictures of animals they have online. I looked up the pussycat in question and learned that the people at the animal shelter thought it would be a good idea to name this particular pussycat, and I'm not kidding you, you can go to their website and look under lost pets and see this for yourself: Blackie.
They named the cat Blackie.
Yeah, that happened. (New to the blog? Blackie is the guy my ex left me for and has four kids with).
So, this week seems to be reminding me that God is still very much on His throne and He's running the show. Unusual has been the order of the week.
So then there's this, which is a good unusual. Last summer, while I was picking up trash along the fence line at the church, I noticed this itty bitty rose bush shoot. It was maybe 2-3 inches tall. I made sure I didn't hit it with the weed whacker. I let people know what it was and to leave it alone and let's see what happens. Today, it had one little bloom on it. It's a pinkish-white teacup rose and it's beautiful. It was cool to see the thing produce a rose.
It kind of made my day. It gave me hope and reminds me that sometimes the payoff for what you do comes later. All I did was kind of keep the rose weed free and not let me or anybody else kill it. For that, I got to see its' first flower tonight. I can't take credit for the rose. I didn't plant it. I didn't do anything but try to protect it. God did the rest and it was really pretty to see.
I don't know what's going on in my life. My snow globe has been shaken so much lately, it feels like blizzard after blizzard. But God is good and faithful. He knows what I'm going through, and where He's taking me.
As for me, I'm surrendered.
