Homey

On May 19, I found out what the problem I had was:

Bed bugs.  The little buggers hijacked their way into my home when I went to pick Wendi up in Washington.  If I thought that went bad, nothing prepared me for how bad bed bugs was.  I wound up at the doctor's office twice because of the awful critters.  I'm a bit allergic to them.  They're the only thing on the planet I know I'm allergic to.  The bites I sustained from these things made my feet hurt so badly I couldn't walk for two days.

It was horrible.  I had to literally throw away furniture, blankets, bedding, etc...I had to wash every stitch of clothing I had.  My clothes had to be transported to the laundromat in plastic bags and my clothes had to stay in clean plastic bags when I got home.  My own washer gave up sometime before I realized what happened.

The odd thing is that even though Wendi stayed in the same hotel rooms and her and the kids were living upstairs until two days before I found out about the wee-beasties, they only managed to have ONE bed bug in their things downstairs.

I had the exterminator come.  Twice.  I still put down powder that will kill these things around my bedroom, and will for the next year.  These things are next to impossible to kill in one shot.  Preventative measures are still in place here.

It took me three months to replace everything.  I had to wait until July for the exterminator treatments to be finished.  You have to wait a spell between sprays.  Someplace in there, my refrigerator started to give up

So I have a new washer and dryer.  I replaced the floor in the laundry room.  My bedroom got new flooring and it was repainted with two different shades of brown.  I needed new bedding.  I got that last week, when I picked up my new bed.    Today, the bedroom set came and reluctantly, I decided I needed to add a television.

I found some pictures for my bedroom at the rummage sale at my church.  I found a wall decoration that says "With God, all things are possible at Wal-marts.  I also had two pictures I took at Yellowstone in 2013 blown up.  I had the frame for one, Wally world had the other one.  John Wayne sits on the dresser.  I got him at this cool shop called Shapiro's Gifts and Travel Goods that used to be in Salt Lake and Fashion Place Mall.

My sister gave me the gas pump that sits on the other side.  In the middle, I have a beer stein I bought in Germany sitting on top of a doily that my grandmother crocheted.  Atop the chest, I have the engine and a car from the "Freedom Train".  They're Hallmark Christmas tree ornaments.  They live on the chest of drawers as a dust collector.  My Rio Grande logo sign is still where it was.  I mentioned the blinds on Saturday.

On the night stand, there's a radio and iPod docking station I got at the thrift store for $10 sometime last year.  Gotta have tunes.  Right now, KLOVE is playing a song that reminds me that it's not my will but God's will be done in my life.

Atop the doorway to my bathroom, I hung my retirement flag.  It's a nice addition.  Before the cost of the TV, I was into the decorations for my room maybe $25.  The picture frame was the most expensive item.  I think it turned out nice,

I was content with just the bed I bought for my houseguest when he was here, but I'm awfully grateful for the things I found to replace what I had to throw away.  I mean that.  And with the things I was able to keep, I was able to make my bedroom very comfortable for me.  It's homey.

Here are some pictures I took, minus the flag,
