Well, that was fun....

When I walked into the hotel, the guy handed me a very familiar looking room key.  It looks just like the one I found in the Smith's parking lot a while back that says "It's time to let me go."  I had to laugh.  On the plane ride to where I am (enemy territory!) the guy sitting behind me was headed to our destination for a very similar purpose.  He is an airplane mechanic for a corporation based in Boise who was coming to the area for some training.  He works on Gulfstream aircraft.  Those are lots nicer than the cargo planes I fix.  A co-worker and I were talking about that very thing a couple of nights ago.  You have to be a lot more careful about things when you're working on airplanes like that.  Like wearing booties, and not scratching the wood trim when you have to take the interior apart to fix something. I don't fit in coach seats.  My knee still hurts.  First class on the way home, though.  It cost me 10,000 sky mi...

Odd things

I saw three people I have not seen in a long time today. The first was someone who used to attend our church until she got married.  Her sister still attends, but this particular young woman does not.  I hadn't seen her in a while; in fact I almost didn't recognize her.  She was with her husband and we just kind of said Hi to each other in passing. The second guy was someone I used to work with in the hangar.  He was walking through the parking lot at work as I was.  We stopped and talked for a few minutes; mostly about work.  He forgot my name and called me "Don".  It happens, I suppose.  We had a nice chat for a few minutes before each of us headed off to our respective destinations. The third was a guy I used to work with at the Air Guard.  Of the three, it was probably the most unusual because I had to stop at the store and pick up something I forgot to buy today.  I didn't want to go buy it; was going to just wait, but felt co...

Red light, green light

I had to take Chevron on a road trip to Salt Lake today.  I was leery because last summer, Chevron had a bit of an overheating problem at speeds above 55.  Today's journey was at pretty much 70 MPH and no problems.  I've changed the heater core and that seems to have helped some with the temperature.  Also, it's greatly helped having heat available in the truck. Something else I did which I forgot about was to run the defroster all the way to Salt Lake.  When the defroster is engaged, it also engages the compressor for the air conditioner.  The truck still ran fine.  Again, grateful for that.  Wish I'd have remembered though that the air conditioning compressor was engaged because that kills the gas mileage. As I was heading down highway 89 toward the mouth of Weber canyon, I got caught up in a traffic jam.  It was caused by one of the traffic lights about a mile away from where I had to stop.  As we inched closer, I could finally se...

K-LOVE moments

I started writing a post last night, but for some reason I struggled with it.  It was about transitions.  This seems to be a season of transition for quite a few people I know.  I think that includes yours truly.  I know there is some travel coming my way in the coming months.  I know that part of that travel will take me to a city where I have an acquaintance who is a pastor.  I'm happy about that because while I'm away, I'll have a place to worship. I'm about 100% sure it's going to be a much different experience than my usual Sunday morning experience but different experiences can sometimes be a good thing. I couldn't quite find a good way to write about transitions, though.  I then decided to talk about K-LOVE moments.  K-LOVE is a Christian radio network that spans the United States and they have a little promo about K-LOVE moments; they're those moments where you jump into your car or flip on your radio and just the right song is play...

I get to

Attitude is everything and mine the last little bit has been kinda not where I'd like it to be.  Mostly because I get frustrated when I think I should see things happening that don't. It's tough.  And I get to do some tough things; mostly because I was stupid previously, but sometimes I wonder if it's more than that.  Sometimes I think I get beat up with things for reasons I will never understand.  I also know that spiritual warfare is a real thing and that because I get to do some things to help the Kingdom that the enemy is gonna fight back.  I see this happening whenever it's my turn to lead chapel or offer a message at church.  The few days before are unusually difficult days and it's little things one after the other.  It happens far too often for it to be happenstance, which I don't believe in. I get to go through those things because of the things I get to do.  Notice I didn't say "have to do", but "get to do".  I get to ...

What can you learn from what I learned?

My life is interesting.  Sometimes, I really long for not interesting, but: A) What fun would that be?  and: B) Sometimes it's interesting because I learn stuff. Yesterday in my e-mail, not once, but twice, and from two different sources, I was invited to listen to the latest broadcast from a pastor I sometimes get stuff from.  He's not one of my favorites but yesterday's broadcast was spot-on to where I am in my life. I kinda want to go my own way sometimes in life.  I don't see things happening like I think they should.  I often don't like waiting on God and I get impatient.  I also sometimes get tempted to think or do things I used to do.  I don't deal with stress very well sometimes.  I'm trying my best to stay on a path I can't even begin to understand some days, except for the lessons that I've learned along the way that I'm sure nothing else could have taught me. The broadcast was about obedience.  The scripture was based in...

Always an adventure

As days go, this one has been interesting.  My door was knocked on earlier this afternoon.  I got a package from Amazon prime.  But I didn't order, nor was I expecting anything.  It had my name on it, so I opened it and inside was a stuffed hippo about the size of a beanie baby.  It took some thinking but with what I'm sure was divine help, I figured out who sent it and why.  It was a friend who I'd done something for and it was her way of saying thank you.  I found an old phone today I didn't know I still had.  I plugged it in and there was a number in it I no longer needed.  I just turned it off and tossed it back into the drawer I got it out of.  I'm sure the person it used to belong to has long since changed her phone number and NO!, well that still means no. I have been wanting to transfer my music from my macbook which still works great but is no longer supported with things like software updates to my chromebook.  That ...
