Available?
Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed--not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence--continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose. Philippians 2:12-13
There seemed to be a theme of the day yesterday. It started out with a daily devotional thought and as the day progressed, it seemed to continue to manifest itself with people I came in contact with. The theme is this: Be available and willing to obey the Holy Spirit.
There's a lot involved in those words. Sometimes it's as simple as talking to a stranger about Jesus. Sometimes, it's complex, like picking up and packing up and moving across the country. Other times, it's taking on a task you're not sure if you're even qualified to do. A lot of times, it's just about making yourself available and saying yes.
My Bible reading for yesterday, had I accomplished it (I had a day yesterday which is a whole other story for a whole other time) as intended would have reminded me of that. I'm in Exodus and yesterday's reading was the part where God told Moses that the Holy Spirit had filled a man with the knowledge, wisdom, and skills necessary to construct the items for the tabernacle they were to build. It reinforces the idea that God gives the things necessary to accomplish His work. We just need to do our part and show up and do what He's called us to do. As I read that this morning, I thought about how that dovetailed nicely into the things that were going on.
The hard part is to let go and obey when God's timing interrupts our day. A friend had some words to share about that last night which I don't think he'd mind me sharing with you:
"God cares more about your availability than your capability."
He knows everything and He knows that if He asks us of something, whether or not it makes any sense to us, that the capability part is handled. He is capable to supply us with what we need to accomplish the ask.
How about you? Are you good at obeying? It's been difficult and I don't always get it right, but I am getting better at it. I'm finding that even when the ask doesn't make sense to me n the moment, it might be setting up some things that later on will make the ask make sense. When we quit trying to figure God out, to let go of needing to know why and go with, "Yes, Lord",you never know what is going to happen.
We just need to do our part.
One more thing, when you see the word "therefore" in a scripture passage, it's a conclusion to the previous thought so if you have some time today, I'd encourage you to read Philippians 2 so you have the context of today's passage.
