Smack down....
You should go do something for yourself. I heard that twice over the weekend and so I decided I was going to go fishing and talk to a Christian friend of mine.
I took Ol' Dollar, which is parked at the Conoco station in Green River. Just how the wheel did not fall off the trailer when the bearing disintegrated, I will never know but it must've happened just before Green River. I thought something was wrong when the guy tailgating me was suddenly a LOOONNGGG way back there.
When I pulled into the gas station the wheel was half-off the axle, hub and all. The hub and wheel are securely in the back of Chevron and I have some brand new tools I wasn't planning on buying. I'm going to have a cordless grinder tomorrow, too. The bearing race melted to the spindle nut and that metal is harder than hammered lightning. I couldn't cut through it with a hacksaw and a chisel and hammer only had the slightest effect. The pipe wrench I bought did the most good, but I should have thought of that I think before the chisel and hammer.
Tomorrow, I'll be headed back to Green River with the grinder and a brand new set of wheel bearings and maybe a new hub. We'll see how it goes, but I'll get it home OK. I may just take the darn thing to a scrap yard.
I'm filthy from working on the boat for two hours and I've destroyed a pair of jeans with wheel grease. All I wanted to do was come home and take a bath.
Wrong plan:
The water is off in my house and for good reason. A pipe broke. It happens, and it's no big deal to fix. Should take about an hour tomorrow when the Home Depot opens. I can get my grinder there, fix the pipe and charge the battery at the same time. I have the bad wheel, and the bearings out of the good wheel to make sure I get the right sizes. That grinder will do in two minutes what I couldn't get done in two hours today.
Things happen in life and I'm not upset about these things at all. It is though, a good reminder to my very good and well-meaning friends why I don't do a lot of what I want to do these days.

Sometimes we take the cheep route only to find out the more expensive way was easier and quicker. I am happy you made it home safe and can fix the other problem easily and quickly. Hope all goes well getting the boat home today. Have a great rest of the week while looking up ;)
