Living in the light but gotta stay out of the grocery...
Today is the Lord's Day. I was so beat down from working so much this week that I didn't really want to go to church, or anyplace else for that matter, today. I have some yard work that I should finish today... should. But I really didn't feel like doing much of anything.
I got up early though, because my friend wanted to borrow my pickup to get some mulch for his garden so I had to clean it out. I had coffee, sat on the back patio, and finally, about 10:30, I got ready for church.
I'm so glad I did. Every now and again, lazy tries to get the better of me on a Sunday, especially after a long week like this week, but off to church I went, and I feel refreshed, spiritually and physically. Tami went to church with me and she also enjoyed the service.
It's been nice having her here to visit. After everything that happened last year, that we could remain friends is saying something. And as I'm living in the light, friends is all we are. Besides, I think we've spent maybe 5 hours together since she's been here.
That's a big change for me. I was once told that unlike me, someone could share a home with someone without, well, you know... I see the irony in the fact that the person that told me that and I have essentially exchanged places. I think too it says a lot about making the conscious choice of living for something more than the moment. We grow in the Lord's light and I have to tell you that my life may seem crazy but it's so much better than it used to be.
I have to share this story: Tami Jo saw how many hours I worked this week and wanted to help me out. She mowed my back lawn but in the process, added gas to the lawn mower. She told me she had difficulty with the lawn mower and called her dad to ask him if gas is supposed to be "blue". Some gas you have to add oil to (like my boat motor or my string trimmer) and I thought she'd used the wrong gas in the mower. Me before, the old me, would have freaked out because I thought the mower was ruined. Instead of freaking out, I just thanked Tami Jo for helping me out and appreciated the effort. I really felt this way; it was so nice to have some help. I figured if the mower was still running, then everything was OK. A quick trip to the patio showed me that in fact, she'd used the mower gas and everything was just fine. Like I said, we live, we learn, we grow.
I should mow the front lawn today. Maybe there's a spot or two that could use another mow in the back, but not today. It'll get cut next week. I'll mow the front tomorrow. Today, we went to the grocery to pick up some firewood for "smores" but they had maple wood. There is no better way to grill a steak than to put a little maple over the coals and let the smoke permeate the steaks. So much for some Chicken Tava tonight. We're grilling steaks over maple! Kitty tava will wait until tomorrow. And, for the chores, well, I'm gonna spend the day hanging out in the pool, playing a little boccee ball and having a little campfire in the back yard. I might even take a small nap in my new hammock that I received for my birthday. Some homemade baked beans are cooking in the bean pot in the oven to go with the steaks, too. They smell good already.
And, I want to thank God for the blessings of having a good Christian friend to talk to and hang out with on this beautiful Sunday. I'm thankful to Jesus for walking with me and showing me that there's more to life than just pursuing things that are, well, immoral and I'm happy I've learned that lesson, too. I know some of my friends will not believe this, but if it weren't true, I just couldn't say it. There's really something to living in the light and following God's word. My life is crazy, nothing has changed, situation wise, but Tami Jo and I both have learned that living the Word brings joy!
I hope by sharing this little story with you that you, the reader will see that there really is something to walking with Jesus and following God's Word to a better life. That He's made those changes in me brings all the glory and credit to Him. I hope you'll take the time on this Sunday to visit with the Lord and invite Him into your life if you haven't already. I haven't offered in a while, but if anyone who reads the blog would like a Bible and doesn't have one, I'd be happy to gift one to you.
God Bless,
Coop
