praying for leadership
Why do people think Americans are stupid? Or are we really that stupid?
I've been watching with interest the banter going on in Washington all week. The Republicans want to pretty much decimate our Government. They had from 2001-2006 to do this. What they instead did was finance two wars on the full faith and credit of the United States of America and cut taxes.
They've touted raising taxes as a "job killing idea", but we're still paying the same in taxes as we did when things went south in 2008. How is this idea of running massive deficits anybody's idea of smart. Because of these policies when the Republicans had control of the House of Representatives and Senate, we're all gonna suffer some.
I work for Uncle Sugar. Some of the policies being floated are changing my retirement to a "high 5" calculation, from the current "high 3". What that means is instead of averaging my highest 3 years of pay, they'll average it over my five highest. There will be a raise in my contribution to the pension part of my retirement as well, from about 1% of my salary to almost 5%. I'm not getting a pay raise this year, or next year either. If they cut Social Security benefits, another 1/3 of my retirement benefit will be cut. That hurts. There's talk of modifying our health insurance coverage as well. That's gonna really take a bite out of a paycheck that doesn't go too far in the first place.
Our President wants to cut spending, meaningfully, and to raise revenues. The Republicans are trying everything they can to cut spending but not raise revenues. Government is bad. Apparently all the bad things that were done by companies and greedy people to cause us to have a big government aren't as bad as the wealthy having to pay a little more in taxes.
Bad Government. Bad, bad Government.
Really? REALLY?
I love it when the Republicans said that even considering to raise the debt ceiling was compromise enough. They didn't have any problems doing it when "W" was President.
It's like the last ten years never happened, just the last four. The thing is I don't understand why every Democrat isn't screaming this stuff from the rooftops. But then, they seem willing to do something hardly any Republican will do these days:
Compromise.
Folks, when you're praying, and this command is in the Bible, please remember to pray for leaders at all levels that it might be good for us. They need all the prayers they can get.
Oh, by the way, work won, but only for a little while. I gotta keep my eye on Miss June so her foot gets to be better. I leave for three hours and she's running all over creation. She's like a little kid sometimes, but I am so blessed to have her here.
Church tomorrow. 10:00 a.m. 25th and Jefferson. See you there?
