The week in review
I was looking at the blog tonight. Believe it or not, it's like a journal of sorts for me and I can go back and revisit some of the things I was thinking and feeling over the past few months. Some interesting things crop up too using the blog tools.
Just as a fer instance: Someone did a yahoo search on Bible studies by a Dale Cooper about following Jesus and my blog popped up. Interesting. I don't know I'm any kind of a Bible scholar but I did just finish my second course on BBN Radio's online Bible institute. (www.bbnbi.org for the shameless plug!)
I had an uneventful week. I came to realize some things that are personal but important to me. Not everything is for sharing on the blog but I shared with the people that are important. I'm finding that's a healthier way for me to express things. I worked quite a bit this week but have two days off this weekend. I put the time to good use. I had some landscaping work to do at the church that is now done. I found a crack pipe on the lawn there yesterday. That made me sad.
I'd been away from my little responsibility for a couple of weeks because of working the overtime I have and when I hurt my thumb (it still hurts). I had some issues with my own weed eater today but thankfully the church has one and I figured out how to re-string it this morning which made the task so much easer. I'm amazed that in just a little under two weeks, how tall the weeds growing in the sidewalk cracks grew. They're not there anymore, though. There was the usual trash to pick up and one of these days I'm gonna write a blog about smokers who are too irresponsible to pick up their cigarette butts. There is a popular bus stop on the corner where the church is and it adds to our little litter problem. The crack pipe, sadly, isn't the first time I've found something. I've picked up a syringe, too. Fortunately, it had a cap on the needle when I did.
My lawn received a badly needed haircut today, too. There is no overtime during the week next week so I'm hoping to get some work done on my flower beds and finally start applying roundup to the back 40. We're gonna kill off everything but the flowers and grass we planted. The rest of it is gonna meet some herbicide on a sunny day.
I'm learning to take good care of my pool, too. I put some chemicals in it the other day and the water turned instantly cloudy. I read online what to do and followed the directions and sure enough, the water is clear again. Just took some patience while the algae died. The problem with the little pools is that they get hot fast and algae will just bloom. All better now, though, but I need to remember to be vigilant about checking the duck to make sure the chlorine tablets aren't all dissolved. I think it's about a once a week thing.
I had a bit of a random thing happen to me on Friday. Thursday night, I was talking to a fellow co-worker about just wishing I could just give it all up and move to someplace I love. Friday, someone asked me if I was planning on moving.
I don't know where the Lord will take me but it won't surprise me if it's away from Utah, but for now, I'm where I should be. I do know that.
I learned this morning that my new phone will pocket dial just like my old one did, but I'm glad it did because I got to talk to a friend for a few minutes today. I'm going to see said friend on Monday. He wants to borrow something I have for an upcoming hunt. I'm happy to see the item being used again. I do miss hunting and maybe someday when things settle down, I'll get back into it. Not to be this year, though and I'm all right with that.
On top of working overtime for $$$, I actually was able to work come comp time which will help me build up my leave again. I'm grateful for that. It's nice to see things going that way in my life. Finances are still piano wire tight, but things got paid again. That's just a blessing.
The best thing about the week was speaking to loved ones. Maybe things didn't go like I wanted them to, but I was so happy to talk to my son again, just to hear his voice. I miss the (not so) little guy.
I'm still mad about what's happening in Washington. We gotta be realistic and we're all going to have to pay more in taxes. It's gonna hurt everyone and it needs to hurt those who have been given much. If you're one of the people who support the "tea party", I'd really like to have a looonnnnngggg conversation with you about just exactly what you were hoping to accomplish. Come prepared for that talk because I'm going to ask you what parts of Government you can live without. Before you pipe up, make darn sure you're up on your history because I'm going to remind you that most of the regulations we have in Government are the direct result of someone (or some group of people or group of industries) doing something so bad to either us or the planet that we needed the government to regulate them.
And, then, I'm gonna ask you about having this silly tax policy for ten years, one simple question:
Where are the jobs?
If you start screaming about healthcare, I'm going to ask you why providing a single payer national health insurance plan to every citizen in this country isn't in ALL of our best interests. Be prepared to discuss the facts about mortality, life expectancy, and quality of care. I'm going to use examples of government run healthcare like Medicare, the University of Utah hospital, and private, not-for-profit care providers like IHC as examples for mine. Do your homework.
Nothing broke this week, but I have some pretty large blisters on the tops of my middle fingers on both hands from working on Tuesday. It hurts to type, but you wouldn't know it by reading this post, would you?
I'm used to things hurting. It's just part of getting older.
Church is tomorrow and our services start at 10:00 with a pot-luck to follow afterward. The church is on 25th and Jefferson. I truly hope you'll find time to join us. Miss June and I would love to have company in the pew. Or visit your church, especially if it's been a while. Jesus is always waiting to hear from you. He does so much for me that I can't really even begin to explain. Yes, He is still working in my life and it's nice to know that these little bumps in my path are but temporary and that someday, I'll be called home to be with Him.
I'm certain of that and you can be too...
Thanks for bearing with me during my little absence. Posting is going to be hit and miss because as always, there is lots going on, but not a lot to share.
