Christmas Time is Here!
I do so love Christmas. I ventured out today looking for the perfect budget Christmas tree. I have a favorite place to buy trees but that wasn't in the budget this year. What was, though was a lovely tree that meets my requirements. It has to be bushy and taller than I am. I'm 6'4". I found a really nice tree for under $30.
Christmas trees have good memories for me. This Christmas though, there's a sad one. June asked if we could enjoy a real tree this year. Sadly, because of Simba's passing (Rip Simba & Snot), I could have a real tree this year. I'm pleased with the tree; sad about Ba. I guess it's just a bittersweet thing this year.
I have the coolest tree stand ever invented. You put the trunk into a sleeve, the sleeve into the base, step on a foot pedal and move the tree until it's straight. This thing could have prevented so many holiday fights over the years! The tree is in the middle of the living room, and there are plugs in the floor nearby, but we never use that room, so the tree is going to be moved tomorrow into the family room where we do most of our living.
Years and years ago, I purchased an LGB Christmas train to go around my tree. I'm hoping the wondermutt doesn't try to eat it. I enjoy my little train, just watching it go around the tracks, making its annual journey to nowhere. I always loved trains, and still do. If I had the time and the money, my basement would be one huge layout.
I put out part of our Christmas decorations tonight. I'll haul the rest of them up tomorrow and do some more decorating. The tree has to fall into place so that's a tomorrow project as well. I already found the lights and the extension cord with the button you just step on to turn everything off and on. I like simple, can you tell?
I hope you're enjoying the holiday season. Say Merry Christmas if you feel like it. Happy holidays is fine, but not mandatory. And most importantly, don't forget two things: The first is the reason for the season and it's not how much stuff you get. Santa is a good story, but it's not the reason. We don't call it Santa Mass, it's CHRISTmas and it marks the occasion (can we possibly avoid a repeat of last year's debate about it not being the actual day?!) of the Savior's birth into this world. More importantly, don't forget what He did in that time on earth, the miracles He performed so that people would believe, and what He did for you and I on the cross.
The second Sunday of Advent is tomorrow and the Peace candle will be lit. I hope worship services are part of your plan.
Wishing you Hope and Peace,
Coop
