Merry Christmas to you too, Katie
Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope you're enjoying a beautiful, peaceful Christmas day and hope you'll make time in the day to remember why we celebrate and remember to thank God for sending us His son, and thank Jesus for paying the ultimate price so our sins might be forgiven before our Heavenly Father.
We're having a simple Christmas here at Lark Circle. June and I exchanged gifts this morning and later on, we're having my family and a member of my family I've never met before to Christmas dinner. We're all born-again Christians and my mother's cousin is LDS and here in Utah serving a mission for her church. It ought to be an interesting afternoon. I'm looking forward to sharing the meal we're preparing. Rib roast has become our Christmas tradition and it's in the oven now. It smells really good.
I was hoping to see some of my friends at church. Then again, I'm always hoping that. I am happy to say that there was quite a large crowd; so much so that I had to sit on the other side of the sanctuary instead of where I usually sit. It was a wonderful service.
I do have a little story to share. It's about my dog, Katie, who just knew it was Christmas Day. I don't know how, but she knew. June stuffed a stocking for each of the dogs as is the tradition in our home. We kind of forgot about the puppies because we didn't exchange gifts until about eleven; shortly thereafter it was time to start preparing dinner.
As I'd finished putting the roast in the oven, I noticed Katie, standing there holding a Santy Claus hat June had draped over a chair, in her mouth. She had this little look on her face like, "Hey, it's my Christmas, too." I felt bad, took down her stocking and gave her and Bucket their chew bones. They're quite happy. It just made me laugh that Katie, who I don't credit with having a lot of smarts, was smart enough to know she'd been forgotten for a few minutes. She's happily taking her afternoon nap right now.
From our home to yours, here's a wish for a very Merry Christmas and a Happy 2012.
