Long about midnight

Long about midnight, the lights came back on.  It was kind of weird to see the lights across the streets back on Thursday night but ours still out.  They were out for two days.  Needless to say, we have some things to replace in the fridge, but that's OK.  It's just milk and stuff.  The leftovers were finished anyway.

We kept the house warm with the fireplace.  Surprisingly, it stayed at right about 50 degrees without the heat.  Not warm by any means, but not tooth rattling cold either.  We'd just stoked up the fire and I'd been in bed maybe 20 minutes and bang, there was light.  More importantly, there was heat.

I gotta take my hat off to Miss June.  She figured out something so she could heat up some food over a grate in the fireplace.  I told her she could have used my dutch oven, that's what it's for.  But I'm proud of her.  She always keeps things stocked up around here and we were ready for a couple of days without power.  That's the second time this year that's happened to us.  The first time a tree branch fell on a power pole and started on fire.  They had to replace the pole and it took them two days to get the lights back on.

We were ready then, too.

Well, that's all the excitement.  Oh, by the way, we survived the winds with just a small section of rain gutter being damaged, my front yard light got beat up pretty bad, and a small section of flashing was ripped down from the patio.  All those things are easy to fix. That's a tomorrow project, though.  I gotta go pick us out a Christmas tree today.

Don't forget church tomorrow.  It's the second Sunday in Advent.
