There ain't enough of me to go around...

The more I do, it seems, the more there is to do.

Here's a snippet of what my day has been like.  I went to bed sometime after two a.m.  I got out of bed about eight-thirty.  The dogs had to go!  I had things to do, so I got up.

My to-do list today included getting the truck safety and emissions inspections done.  After that, there was a trip to the DMV.  While I was at the DMV, I put the canner on to boil.  My BBQ sauce didn't thicken like I wanted it to, so while I was getting ready to go get the truck done, I emptied the jars and boiled some more of the liquid off.  It's got a great texture now, but a little pulpy.  We went from two pints and seven half-pints to 6 half-pints. The recipe told me it made 3 pints, which when it thickened up like it should, is what I got.

While things were boiling, I cleaned up part of the house and made my bed.  On my way to work, I have to stop and fax another document to the mortgage company so I can get my(?) money to start work on the basement.  I'm getting really frustrated with this process and I'm really about ready to call the AG office and the VA and see if maybe they can get me some help, but that's another story for another day.

Someone is coming tomorrow to look at the coffee grinder.  It's been in the garage for a while, so I'm gonna clean it up before work.  There's a load of dishes that will have to be done before work and that will probably be it for the day.  But that's not all there is to do.  The laundry is starting to pile up but that's gonna have to wait until Friday.  My lawn needs to be mowed. Floors need to be swept and mopped, and for rooms I don't use, the upstairs bedrooms sure seem to get dirty and dusty in a hurry.  The house needs to be dusted, too.   I need to deal with the aftermath of the garden and that's going to happen throughout the week next week.  Now that I have my truck useful again, I can pull the plants and weeds up out of the garden and haul them off.  If you'd like to have some corn stalks for your yard's fall decoration, I have some extra.  They're $9 at Home Depot.  They're free here.

There are still more of those things I don't talk about anymore, too.  Sometime in the fray, hopefully Sunday, I'll be making up another batch of BBQ sauce.  It's kinda tomatoey, spicy and sweet at the same time.  I might find something to try it on!  I actually like it and I'm really picky about BBQ sauce. This batch is a little pulpy because I got impatient and pureed some of the solids from the food strainer to thicken it up instead of just cooking it off.  Live and learn.

My roomie usually takes care of some of this stuff but she's on the mend and busy with her daughter these days.  I'm tryin' to keep up but it's not easy.  Add to that, the cooking, the shopping, taking out the trash, and the other things I have to do, and I don't easily find free time these days.

I'm really enjoying the different things I've found to preserve and I'm kind of on a canning kick too.  And believe it or not, it's time to start thinking about holiday baking.  Fruitcake has to "ripen", and before you know it, Thanksgiving will be here and that means the house has to be scrubbed top to bottom.

I'm on a break.  I'm tired.  And I still have to go to work.

And I don't think I'm alone in feeling this way.  While I was waiting for my truck this morning, the lady sitting next to me struck up a conversation.  She was telling me about getting her oil changed and told me her husband didn't do stuff like that.  I kinda thought cars was a blue job.  But to each their own, I suppose.  I was telling her that changing oil was pretty simple.  It really is, once you get the car off the ground and on a safety stand.  I do mine because they want $42 to change the oil.  I can do it for about $20 these days, $30 on the truck because I buy the more expensive K&N oil filter that keeps oil in the engine when you shut it off.  The lady was telling me she had to take the day off to take care of getting the oil changed and her car inspected as well.  I guess I look friendly.  I was just sitting there minding my own business.

Having a helpmeet would be great and I'm hoping that someday that will be in God's plan for me.  Until then, I'm gonna just keep plugging along.  And whining about it from time to time on my blog.

Hope this Wednesday finds you well and things in your world are well.  Aside from being a little busy, (and maybe that's a good thing because I don't have time to dwell on things) I'm doing really, really well.  God really is Good!
