Good things
To start off today, I'd like to share with you James 1:17 (ESV) Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
I had some pretty good gifts over the weekend. I shared with you the story of how God met my needs on Saturday. Later that day, I had the chance to be there for someone else which was pretty cool. It was just a small thing, but it was cool to be a part of it. That's how God works sometimes, though. Sometimes He uses other people to answer your prayers. Sometimes He uses you to meet someone else's need.
Saturday night, well, technically it was after midnight, so Sunday morning, I heard a wonderful verse of scripture before I went to bed. It was 1 Corinthians 13. I'd first heard that verse read six years ago. I never in my wildest dreams think it would become such an important part of my life.
Sometimes, it's just little things that come your way, you really appreciate. Like being woefully behind in your fantasy football matchup, only to have your last two players score enough points to deliver you the "w". Or even finding a needle in a haystack, or in my case finding the sound box for your haunted house figurine in a pile of junk in your garage, when you weren't even really looking for it.
That happened to me today. I bought Wendi a Dept. 56 haunted mansion a few years ago but last year when I took it out of the box, I couldn't find the light/sound box, nor even a picture of what the thing looked like. This year, I found a picture of what I was looking for online. Today, I cleaned off the patio and as I put something in the garage, this thing caught my eye. The stuff that was salvageable from the basement is in the garage, and in a plastic sack I saw this orange thing in a box for a different thing, and sure enough, it was the thingie for the haunted mansion. I put it in the box where it belongs. Finding the sound box was a good thing because they don't make this particular figurine any longer.
I'm a bit of a condiment snob. I admit it. I don't buy cheap mayo, mustard, or ketchup if I can help it. I like what I like. I'm the same way with BBQ sauce. We have about ten bottles of it in the cupboard but I won't use it because I don't like that kind. Partly, sometimes it doesn't like me either, so it's not always about being a snob.
I had some leftover thingies from the garden and I really didn't know what to do with them, so i decided to make BBQ sauce. I didn't like the recipe from the Ball Blue Book so I went online looking for recipes you can, well, can. I found a recipe I wanted to try from of all places, the Ball canning website. it didn't have celery in the recipe, so I chose that one. It's cooking down now and if I can get it to the consistency I want it, it ought to be good. Lotsa work, but it sure tastes good. I like this so much I might make two batches.
Oh, one last blessing. I need a windshield for my truck. I found one today for $132. It's twelve dollars more than the glass deductible. I have an appointment tomorrow. I didn't have to call my insurance company and make a claim. After the basement and running over the BMW a couple of years ago, I'm all good with not making that claim. Farmer's has been really good to me, so there's no reason to go to the well again.
I'll tell you, these things may not seem like much, but to me they're blessings and I'm thankful for each and every one of them. God is good and worthy of praise!
Hope you had a great Columbus day!

After I wrote this, I checked on my fantasy football league scores and it turns out there were some corrections to the stats and I did not win my matchup. I lost by less than a point, but that's fair because the QB usually scores most of your points and mine was knocked out of the game with an injury. God is still GOOD!
