And how was your day?

Blessings come in the strangest of ways sometimes.  Here's today's story:

I got home at four a.m.  I'm quite surprised the number of people out and about at that time of the morning but that's another story.  We were fortunate to have the opportunity to put in some overtime this week and working a 12 hour day isn't a big deal. Sleeping, though, takes up a big chunk of your day when you're putting in hours like that.  When sleeping isn't an option, the days become long.

I told one of my co-workers that I was "stupid tired" last night.  When you've been up a long period of time without sleep, you start to get a little dingy and I was at that point last night right about quitting time.  Stupid tired is gonna kick in earlier tonight because in the last two days, I've had about eight hours of sleep.  I've had lots to do this week, and today was no exception.

I woke up about 8:45.  The doggie alarm clock went off.  I rolled out of bed about a quarter after nine and ran down to the U-haul store to rent some furniture dollies.  I needed them because someone bought that big-ass convection oven.  That's the last of the bakery equipment I had.

The guy said he'd be here at ten.  He was right on time.  He looked at it, tried to negotiate me down in price and I wouldn't budge.  He paid what I asked for, and he, his son (who is my age), and I try to figure how we're gonna get this thing out of my garage and into his truck.  My hero contractor showed up to work on the basement at that exact moment, and between the four of us, we set it on a furniture dolly, wheeled the oven down to the guy's trailer, set it on some 2X4's that I had and slid it right into the guy's trailer without having to do more than just tilt the oven on its edge.

I called my mom and gave her the good news.  She's happy and I'm grateful.  We both needed the extra ching.

Anyway, we had a bit of an issue downstairs that I had to help take care of.  When I went into the basement, the door from the upstairs didn't shut tight, and yup, you guessed it, the wondermutt hit the trail.

By the time I realized he was gone, it was too late.  I called the campus police department and asked them to keep an eye out for him and to please call me instead of the dog catcher.  This is no word of a lie, I just paid the final part of the last ticket for him not two days ago.

As I'm taking the furniture dollies back to the store, the phone rings, and it's my friends at Weber County animal shelter.  Someone found the dog and took him in.  He's alive, he's fine, and he didn't get hit by a car.  Blessings!!!!  Because the doggie catcher didn't catch him, there was not ticket and the $75 bail was about a third of what a citation would have been in this care.  Big blessing!!!!

We walk a narrow path as Christians.  I'm understanding that more and more these days and I'm guilty this morning of being a little frustrated with God for a minute.  Why would he let this happen when it seems like I'm just kind of going to have an extra dollar of two?  But God knows what He's doing and I'll just take the reminders of staying on the narrow path and not going on my own, and the many blessings of this day.

Walls are being built.  When this is all over, I will be able to put two cars in my garage.  Maybe I can find a roommate to share the basement with.  I will have enough money to purchase a used washing machine which I could really use.  My dog is safely asleep at my feet and maybe there's time for a nap. I'm blessed beyond measure in my life today.

I hope you find yourself blessed and having a great day as well.
