I'm getting so cheap
One of the many things the good Lord is working on changing in my life is my spending habits. I'm really getting to the point where I hate to spend money on anything. I've never been like this in my life and I'm having a hard time adjusting to it. I mean, I don't even like buying things I need.
I did need a new to me washing machine. I really want the shiny red ones but they're not in the budget any time soon and that's all right. The used appliance store was open and I decided it was better to buy a used one with a warranty than buy one off KSL not knowing what I was getting. That and my truck is in SLC, so by the time I drove down to get it, drove back up with a washer, and drove the truck back down, it would have added $50 to the cost. It was cheaper to go to the used store and have them deliver one. I really hated doing it, but I found a washer. I'm waiting for the guy to clean it up and deliver it sometime this evening.
He gave me a good deal and a trade-in on the old one downstairs. He's gonna take that with him so I cleared a path from the framing project that's ongoing and he should have a clear shot to haul the leaker up out of here. Yay. Less junk, especially in the basement.
I probably could have bought a brand new washer and called it Christmas for the family but this one is guaranteed for a year. If I can make it last a year and then sell it for half of what I paid for it, I'll still be money ahead. Before, I would have just purchased the shiny new one and called it good.
I spent a little bit more money on Christmas lights today. I bought miniatures to save money over the old fashioned lights I have. They're all hooked up and ready to go. With what I'll save in the electric bill using them, they'll more than pay for themselves over the month. And I didn't even want to put them up this year. I was told I was going to.
OK, have it your way Miss June.
I'm a little unhappy with Wal-Mart but how do you not shop there when you're on a budget? They're cheaper by far for motor oil than anyone else in town. I got oil for the car, an oil filter, and spark plugs for the car while I was there. I figure I saved $10 over the auto parts store. I did make a trip there, though. I need brake pads so I got them today. I got the cheap ones. For now.
Guess what I'm doing tomorrow?
I think it's good for me to learn these lessons, though. It's really helping me say no to a lot of things. I've learned that "works" is good enough. And I'm thankful for finding what I needed at prices I could afford. I'm also grateful for the money to get these things. God is good and He provides.
I think these lessons are going to help in the future. Sooner or later, we're going to start getting raises again and in four years, everything but the house will be paid off. That's a blessing. A huge blessing.
I hope you got to enjoy this beautiful fall day. I hate to admit it, but I really enjoyed being outside and working on the house. I even found time to fix a light that needed to be repaired. I have carriage lights on either side of my garage door that I put in and one of the plastic inserts going into the brick that holds the screw for the light broke. It's no longer broken and the wreaths I hang around these lights really make the house look, well, festive.
Don't forget church tomorrow!
