Give Thanks!
If I started listing everything I have to be grateful for, this would take you two hours to read and I'd only make a dent in the list. But on a day like today, I think it's well and proper to give thanks to the gracious God who has blessed me in ways I'd never even dreamed of.
Above all, today I'm thankful for God's grace. I know, first hand, that God is God and that I'm even able to write this in the comfort of a warm home is a testimony to His grace. I've seen Him do mighty things in my life and each and every one is a reason to be grateful and thankful. I am. And I know that everything in my life stems from the grace I found through accepting Christ as my savior.
I'm also thankful to God for an abundant harvest from the garden. In the cupboards and freezer in my home, the product of that blessing is well-evident. Today, we'll be enjoying some of the vegetables we saved from the garden for this day. There will be green bean casserole and butternut squash soup made with these things. We are grateful for them. I'm grateful too that we were also able to share the bountiful harvest with friends, neighbors, and church family.
We're also (we being Miss June and I) to family for sharing. My mother kindly paid for the meal today and I'm so thankful to her for the blessings and grace she's shown me this year. I couldn't have made it to today without my mom and I want y'all to know that.
We've been blessed beyond measure here at Lark Circle. Sometimes it's hard to see the blessing, like during the week of the flood. But after that, I see the blessing that came from that. My basement is taking shape. The contractor has some great ideas and there are walls where partitions used to be. There are wonderful things that are coming, and again, I'm grateful to God to use that experience to build a little character in me and to show some of the grace to others that He's shown to me.
I'm learning, through God's grace to repay hate with love, cruelty with kindness. They haven't been easy lessons but they've been some of the most important lessons I've learned. I'm not where I'd like to be with that, but each day is a step forward. I think remembering the things God has forgiven me for helps me remember that if I'm forgiven, I need to forgive. It's a lot harder to do than it sounds. That's what I mean by sharing the grace shown me to others.
I'm ever so thankful that things with my children seem to be getting a little better. I love my children and miss being part of their lives. Again, I attribute that to God's ability to use circumstances to melt a hard heart. This, by no means, by the way is in the order of importance because my kids would have been first on the list! Just thought I'd throw that in.
I hope today finds you thankful, no matter where you are. Please remember those that are alone, or far away from home and family protecting us. I've spent a Thanksgiving away from home and know it's no fun. Keep them in your prayers because it's always difficult to be away from home and family on holidays.
I'm thankful too, for house guests today as well. One of the most important things I learned from Wendi was that our home is always open to those who don't have family. It's made for some interesting conversations at mealtime, but we're blessed and we're happy to share.
And I'm thankful for you, dear friends. Although time and circumstances keeps us from seeing each other, I'm grateful to know you're still my friends. Someday my crazy life will settle down and I'm hoping when that day comes, I'll again have time to renew those friendships that mean so much to me. Until then, though, please know how much each and every one means to me.
Well, I gotta go tent up the turkey and get ready for guests. Hope your day is blessed!
