The heat is on!

Yesterday I was talking with a friend and mentioned that I had to purchase a new range for the downstairs kitchen.  I think my roommate will appreciate having his own.  We used to have one down there but it became contaminated with the ooze from last year's flood so it was donated to the guy who hauls off scrap appliances.

Anyway, I mentioned that I had my eye out of a Coleman stove too.  If every weekend is a three day weekend this summer, I want to try and do some camping.  Depending on what the funds situation looks like.  Still, I think having a camp stove is a good idea in case the power goes out.

I found both.  I spent more than I really wanted to for the range, but it was an incredible deal.

Here's that story:

I'd asked if the Lord would lead me to a good deal on a range.  Look, I know that sounds silly, but I truly believe we're supposed to trust in all things that God will provide.  After that request, I set about visiting every thrift store in Ogden.  No ranges, but I did find the camp stove for $15, and it's one of the big two burner models.

The used appliance store was open yesterday afternoon and when I walked in, I noticed they only had one range in the store.  This is the same guy I got the washer from and so far, so good with it.  The range price tag said $550.  It's a nice Whirlpool, all black, which clashes nicely with just about anything else in the house, by the way.  It has a convection oven.  It's a lot like the stove I have, only better.  But $550, well that's about $400 more than I want to pay.  I chit-chat with the guy and I'm just about to leave when he says that if I give him $300 for the stove, it's mine.

Business must be bad because for this stove, that's a screamin' deal.

OK, I have it.  It's more than I want to spend, but it's a better option than a lot of the stuff I've seen on KSL for an equal amount of money.  At least I know it's been checked out and everything works, so I bought it.

I found both things I was looking for.

I'm in self-clean mode on my oven right now.  It's making the trek downstairs when my roomie is available to help me move it.  It needs cleaned and that's happening right now.  So literally, the heat is on in the oven for the next three hours or so.

And then it gets scrubbed.

It's not in real bad shape, but an oven, to a single guy, is one of those things that gets neglected.  June rarely bakes.  That's kind of my thing and I can't wait to try out the new oven because it's got some really nice features for baking breads and things.  I like my oven, but it doesn't brown bread worth a darn.

I felt a little bad about the whole thing, though.  Although my stove is nice, it has one problem.  One of the burners doesn't work.  I had no idea though the thing is still under parts warranty, so I'll be getting that fixed next payday.  I'm happy about that because I don't like it when stuff doesn't work for one, and for two, I felt like I was kinda putting myself ahead of someone else and I'm really working on not being so selfish.

And to be honest, the stove I'm putting downstairs is a lot nicer than what I had intended to buy in the first place.

So today I'm thankful to find what I needed and what I wanted.  I got more than I bargained for but in the bargain, I got a lot more than what I was looking for.  I was gonna go cheap and get a low-end stove but in God's providence, I had to spend a little more, but the blessing was worth it!  I also got to evaluate where I'm at with putting others before myself, sharing, and being a good steward.  Those things are blessings, too.

Hope you're having a great Thursday.  One more shift and then it's four days of yard work!
