Last day
I'm home in the morning, barring any un-forseen incidents at the airport. Like an oversold flight. Delta does that a lot. That $1200 hook might be enough to delay my return. We'll see. I have a turkey on the thaw for the smoker tomorrow though. I have plans. I miss my dog, and my cooking. I miss the adjustable bed. My hotel has only a shower. My back wants desperately to be submerged in some hot water. The hot tub here is still inop.
Inop is airplane lingo for "broke".
One of my former troops is ill and today the guys went to his home to lend a helping hand. I'm sad I couldn't be there, but today has been restful. I got to see something of Fort Worth. I went to a little Mexican restaurant I've been wanting to try for lunch. I went out to the stockyards area to see the historic buildings and do some trinket shopping.
I wanted to bring home a bottle of whiskey but the distillery was closed today. I really don't need it and there's no room in the suitcase anyway, so it's not a big loss. I like this area but it's not home.
I would like to be home tonight because it's Good Friday. Good Friday is a quasi-holiday in Texas. It's one of eleven states that recognizes it as a legal holiday. In Texas, it's optional although I am unsure what that exactly means other than some stuff is open and some stuff isn't.
Our church typically has a service. There were a couple of churches here that did, but not the church I've worshiped at while I've been here. They're growing to two services on Sunday. I think that's great. But still, I'm ever mindful this day of what Jesus went through for me. For you. For all of us.
I stopped for takeout tonight. The guy behind the counter said something about it being Black Friday and a girl wearing a crucifix told him "Not Black Friday, but Good Friday." We understand why it's called Good Friday, but we also understand that for God and Jesus it was more like Black Friday, given the description of events in the Bible.
As the young woman who made that comment, I smiled and asked her to tell the kid WHY it's Good Friday.
The kid that sold me my car called me today. He had his own story to tell me and I'm glad I listened to him the night I bought the car. I reminded him, too, that it sounded like God was blessing him and that he shouldn't neglect church either.
You never know.
I'm pleased I was able to share with you some of the stuff from my trip. So much more will have to wait; there are answers to things coming. I'm believing God for BIG things and He's had me pray some bold prayers. The isolation hasn't always been pleasant but it's sure been necessary and a blessing.
I'm reminded today that changing the name of the blog to the title I did was a correct thing to do, because I really do have an abundant life.
