Thankful for a good week

I lived this week.  It's the first time in a very, very long time I did that.  It's been so long, it was actually kind of hard to remember what to do.  But like everything you learn, it comes back to you eventually.

I went to Wal-mart first thing this morning to buy a dog leash for the wondermutt.  When I got home, Bucket and I went for a walk around the neighborhood.  He was happy to be out.  So was I.  I'm looking forward to many more such walks.  Bucket, when he was with my father-in-law, went for lots of walks and got two hot dogs a day.  Today we went for a short walk and he shared a hot dog with the beagle.  Baby steps.  But he's happy.  I won't get into what people wear to the ol' Wal-mart at nine in the morning on a Saturday, save to say that there are a lot of people who gave up today.

I took the beagle for a ride today in the truck.  She likes to go bye-bye and hang her nose out the window.  We went to two different Lowe's stores.  The one in Riverdale was out of what I needed.  The one in North Ogden had what I needed.  If I'd remembered I needed it while I was at the Wal Mart out there, I could have saved a trip.  I ran into two people I work with there.  Small town, ain't it?

The flower beds in the back yard are raked out.  I just need to pile up the leaves in the compost pile.  I went to start my tractor.  It's gonna need some work.  So is the back 40.  I did find shingles from my neighbors' houses that blew up there during the hurricane we had a few months ago.  Lots of them.

It was a busy week, what with working on the house.  One of the highlights of my week was my discipleship program.  I really enjoy that and am really learning a lot about God; who He is.  It's nice to grow in faith and with my Christian walk.  There is so much to learn, so much to share.  Someday, I'll get everyone caught up with what's happening in my life.  When it's appropriate I'll share what the post about the three quarters, two license plates, and the Bible verse meant.  I never shared what the verse was and won't, but to the person who said that that the things that happened to me that day didn't mean and I quote "a damn thing" was so very, very wrong.

We all have difficult people that we know.  Sometimes people make it hard for us to like them.  I know a man who fits that description but he's still a brother in Christ.  There are days when I dread having to interact with that person and I'm not alone.  Thankfully, though, this week he made it just a little bit easier to be around him.  I don't know if he changed a little or I did, or maybe it was both of us.

The house projects turned out really well.  Paint stuck to where it was supposed to.  I repainted the rooms the colors they're supposed to be.  It took a bit more time, but sometimes a little respect goes a long way.  And it looks really nice.  Even the downstairs looks better than it has in a very, very long time.

God is still very busy in my life.  I know I don't talk much about it these days.  Last week, I came across a Bible verse that just jumped out at me.  I've read it before, but this time, I just asked God that if this was what He wanted me to do, would he please give me the opportunity to do it.  He did.  The next day, an opportunity to do what the verse said presented itself and I jumped on it.  This week, another opportunity presented itself and I took advantage of that one, too.  It's nice to know that when you begin to wonder if you're really following God's will for your life, He shows you something to let you know you're on the right path.

He did.  I am.  I just can't share the story with you.

Yet.

I heard from a guy I've known for years.  He still thinks enough of me to call me once in a while.  I was meaning to call him this week but got so busy with the house and all, I didn't make time.  Shame on me.  I'm blessed to have this man as a friend.  When guys work together, live together, share rooms together, eat together, travel the world together, I think friend is really not a good term.  He's more of a big brother.  He's retired and just living a good life.  He's had his share of woes.  He's earned a relaxing time, but even with being retired, he's still the busiest guy I've ever known.

Not a bad week.  Praise God for helping me to remember what it is to live again.  I had a great week.  Now it's time to put some steaks on the grill.  The salad is made, the potatoes are in the oven and Miss June should be home from work any minute.

If you enjoyed today as much as I did, please don't forget to thank God for it.  And don't forget church tomorrow.  If you don't have a church of your own, it would be such a blessing if you'd join us at 25th and Jefferson tomorrow at eleven.  Don't forget to set your clocks AHEAD (no excuses for missing church because of the clock!).  At any rate, it's good to worship God for giving us this glorious day and another day on Earth to try and get it right.

Blessings to you all,

Coop
