Beautiful Saturday

I know, I should be outside.  I'm going to be in just a bit.  I had some inside stuff to do this morning and it's all but taken care of.  I'm thinking a quick trip to the commissary may be in order today, too.  I just got back from the depot but may have to go back.  I found something outside that needs to be corrected.  A hammer and nails will fix it once I have the gutter hanger in hand.  It was a hidden casualty from the big windstorm this winter.

I did go outside this morning to see what's coming up.  A couple of weeks ago I raked out the flower beds. Glad I did.  My flowers are coming up.  I have daffodils and these little mini buttercup daffodils that are in bloom.  The roses are growing nicely.  The peonies are just starting to pop through.  The irises are; the lilac and the bush that looks like honeysuckle but isn't are also leafing out  The apricot tree is starting to blossom and I had to laugh about that. When they bloom they really do look like popcorn is poppin' on the apricot tree.  My LDS friends will get that one.

I had some good news yesterday.  The person who gave it to me coincidentally(?) used to live on my street about twelve years ago.  Ogden is a very small town.

It's absolutely a beautiful day today!  While at the Home Depot, I looked at how much renting a tiller is going to cost.  It's time to get the peas, carrots, onions, potatoes, and beets in the ground.  We're gonna plant the dog snot out of the back forty this year.  There are lots of hungry people out there and our goal is to be able to plant more than enough so that we may share.  That's the hope and the plan.

I enjoy spring.  It's kind of the season of hope.  You plant crops, you hope they grow.  The weather is warm, the long put off chores of winter have a way of keeping you busy and that, for me, I think is a real blessing.  I'm thinking I'm actually going to have to mow the lawn this week.

This spring though is going to come with some extra work.  The tractor wouldn't start and it may be serious/terminal.  I won't know until I get it in the garage.  That one will have to wait.  For now, I have shingles to pick up, some more leaves to rake, and some to add to what will be next year's compost.  I have to import leaves to get enough brown stuff for my compost pile.  Grass clippings I have plenty of.  We're gonna get serious about this whole back 40 thing finally.  The nice thing about working afternoons is that I'll have the cool of the mornings this summer to weed.

I have one more battle to fight in the yard and it's name is "snow on the mountain".  Don't ever plant this particular ground cover unless you're serious about it covering some ground.  I mean that.  It works.  Very, very well.  I didn't plant it.  It didn't rear its ugly head until I trimmed the fitzers back so we could actually have flower beds.    The fitzers are needing to be clipped but that's not going to happen today.  After I bag everything up, I need to have a meeting with the resident gardener so she can tell me what we're doing this year.  I don't touch the flower beds without Miss June's say so.  I tend to kill, mow over, or weed whack things that I think are weeds but aren't.  Like hollyhocks!

Our poor hollyhocks.

The front flower beds are going to be a project in themselves. There are so many things planted that I don't know what is what.  It's hard to get out there with the roundup because, like I said before, I tend to kill things.  I am going to do something I didn't last year, which is plant an herb garden on the south side of the house, just underneath my bedroom window.  There are herbs I don't like (thyme, for example), but I do like rosemary, basil, and other herbs that can grow well here.  I might even plant some garlic this year, but not underneath my bedroom window!

Well folks, that's all for today from Lark Circle, where farming is fixin' to commence.  I hope today finds you well and that the Lord is blessing you richly.

I know He's at work in my life, turning things that are nonsensical to me into a plan for my life and my future.  I saw something on my Facebook page that kind of said that when it seems like everything is crashing down, it just God making things the way He wants them to be.  I don't have all of the answers, but I know we're planting a garden this year, so that's a good step in the right direction!

Praise God for this beautiful day, for another day to share, for another day to get it right!

Oh, two Bible verses to share today.  Here are the links:Proverbs 15:10 and Psalm 27:14.

Have a blessed day.  Don't forget church tomorrow.  We're meeting at eleven on 25th and Jefferson if you're in the neighborhood.
