There I was...

I'd hoped today would be a smooth day.  Not so much, but hey, I'm making the best of it.

I ordered two small birthday cakes for June and I for our birthday.  Yup, hers and mine are the same day.  I'm off to pick up a card and small gift for her.  She's not feeling too well, sadly.  It's no fun to be ill on yer birthday.  I haven't seen her for about a day and a half now.  I get notes though, and unexplained mystery food.

Seriously:  Last night I came home and found a hot bowl of soup in the microwave with a ham hoagie sandwich.  No Miss June to be seen, but the soup was still hot!  It was good, too.

Anyway, I ordered said cakes from a bakery I like in Salt Lake.  Well, I had my mom do it for me.  The cakes were ordered for Dale Hooper, but apparently the order never made its way to where it should have because when I went to retrieve the cakes, they were not there.  They had a chocolate one like I wanted in the back, I'm sure for someone else, and they had a white cake like I wanted in the display case, so I just took that one.  I think the girl behind the counter was really flustered and afraid I was going to be upset but I just told her not to worry about it, that everything was fine, and she didn't need to apologize anymore.  She probably told me she was sorry about fifty times.  I got pretty much what I wanted so I wasn't upset.

They were nice and let me have a mini eclair for free because of the mix-up.  It sure looked good but mine are surely better, flavor wise.  I cheat and put something extra in the dough when i make eclairs.

Anyway, I had a chore I saved on purpose to do today.  I wanted to have something to do so I wouldn't sit around and feel badly about spending my birthday alone this year.  Last year, I worked overtime all week and if it could have gone wrong that week, it did.  I remember that, so alone maybe isn't so bad this year.

It's good to fear God.  Even on your birthday.

The lawn I had to mow today just kind of gave me fits.  The grass didn't want to stay in the trash bag and I kept finding things to pick up and throw away.  It's finally done, but not without a fight.  Oh, and to top it off, it was idiot day on I-15 and only by God's grace am I not lying in some hospital bed someplace.  The special people who own the road were out in force today.  Maybe there was a rally and I just didn't hear about it?

I did get a nice birthday card in the mail and someone butt dialed me.  My phone died so I didn't see who the caller was, but you gotta love those messages.  I've done it before so it just kinda made me laugh.

I had to pay a bill today.  I knew it was going up $120 a month and that's all right.  It's only for five years and I can feel good about paying that. (what it is, is a matter for another day).  I just thought it would go up next month.  Yeah, not so much.  It went up this month.  We'll be OK though.

After all that, I just came home to regroup.  I gotta go out and do some shopping, get some stuff for the pool, and maybe something for dinner.

Wish me luck out there.  It's already been one of those days.!
