sleeping in, walking the dogs, and picking tomatoes

What do those three things have in common?  Well, first off it's a great way to start a Thursday.  Each is a blessing in its own particular way.  I didn't have really anything I needed to do today, so sleeping in is a blessing.  It's so warm in the hangar and I think the heat just takes a lot out of a person.  I enjoyed nine hours of peaceful slumber and got up at about a quarter to eleven this morning.  It felt good to get some rest.  Apparently the mutts were tried too.  They were still sleeping when I woke up.

I took them for a walk today.  I tried to just slip out with the wondermutt. Katie is old but she's as smart as she wants to be.  She looked up and saw the leash missing and came bolting to the door.  Walks with the two of them aren't bad but they are short.  Katie's a bit of a pork chop and she's getting to be a grandma dog so a walk is a good idea.  A long walk is not a good idea for her.  It's always a blessing though to be outside.  We went to Dee park which is at the mouth of Ogden canyon.  The Ogden river runs beside part of the park and there's plenty of grass to walk on so doggies don't burn their little feets on the hot pavement.  It also means that dogs get to participate in their other favorite activity: going bye-bye in the car.  Bucket is OK with a ride in the car if Katie comes along.  Other than that, it's a pretty anxious time for him.

As soon as I'm done with this, I'm going to harvest some more tomatoes.  There were about a dozen that were pretty close yesterday.  I'm thinking today might be a good day for that.  Maybe I'll make some stuffed tomatoes for dinner.  That sounds really good.  The garden has truly been a blessing this year.  And while I'm at it, I think I'll pick some blackberries, too.  They should be ripe by now.

Peaches are close.  Maybe another week for them.

Blessings are everywhere you look, but sometimes I wonder if we don't get so wrapped up looking for the big miracle that we forget the little ones that happen every day.  Or that sometimes, God uses us to be a blessing in someone else's life.

Just a little food for thought on a peaceful, smoke filled, and somewhat warm Thursday afternoon.
