It's all about the....

There are times when you passively listen to things and then there are times when something happens to you that you hear what was said earlier in the day because it's important.

I'm having a day like that and I'm for sure listening.

You're going to have to open your Bibles for today's blog because to fill in the blank in the title, you're gonna have to do some reading again.  I have some stories to tell, but of course I'm going to leave out a few of the details.

Today started with church.  I worked last night and was beat.  I didn't sleep well and missed the pancake breakfast this morning but I did make it, on time, for the worship service.  The pastor talked about firstfruits.  I really listened to the sermon because, I believe, one of the reasons our garden did so well was because we gave away most of the first things we grew as a sacrifice in keeping with giving the firstfruits to God in the Old Testament.  It's not much, but it's a way to honor God even in a small thing like vegetable gardening.  The garden grew last year like I've never grown a garden.  I still have so much in the pantry.

But it was more than that, and for some reason one topic of discussion caught my attention.  It's been bothering me for a long time because it's one of those things where I want to do what I ought but can't do what I'd like because of circumstances.  But they'll change over time and I'll get where I want to be again.  I'm looking forward to that day.

After the service, I came home and as I do most days, I made time for reading my Bible.  I opened to Nehemiah 10:37-39.  Um, OK God, I'm listening.

Tonight, after watching a TV program on the History channel called "The Bible", I set about to do some stuff I need to do for next week.  I flipped on the radio and listened to a program called "Songs in the Night".  The scripture was the parable of the shrewd manager found in Luke 16.  All of hese are interconnected in some way, by the way.

In looking for that passage, I came across this:  1 Chronicles 29:12-18.  It just kind of caught my eye, for a reason.

Every now and again, I'll hear the same thing a time or two during the same day, or it'll be the theme for the week, but when I hear something four times in the span of eight hours, I start paying a lot of attention.

A lot.

The really cool thing is that with this subject, the heart is willing and more.... and when I get there, I know, by God's grace, that with His help, it wont' be all about the..... but all about God and being a light that shines for Jesus!
