Because a bug went....
Y'all know by now that I think there's a life lesson or twenty to learn from a children's book called Because a Bug Went Ka-choo. Today's story goes like this:
I think I mentioned that the truck had a malfunction. It happened the day after the car key quit working, which happened the day after I was planning on doing something about my, um...., situation. Anyway, I was able to drive it when I needed it for a while but a couple of weeks ago, that became a bad idea. I figured out what it needed to make it drivable, and yesterday I bought the parts and installed them. I drove the truck to work to make sure it would be all right because the kiddo wanted to use it today.
Last night, I asked my boss if I could leave for a couple of hours so I could attend a Good Friday service at church. He wasn't happy about it. But because the crane we were using ran out of gas at just the time I needed to leave, he let me go. I figured I'd have just enough time to get home, change real fast into some clean clothes, and get to the service. The sky cops on base, though had other plans. I was stopped for a random vehicle inspection. Yay. That took ten minutes. Fortunately, though, there isn't a dress code at God's house and I made it just in the nick of time to the service.
I'm so glad I went. I can't explain it better than to say that for a couple of days, something had been nagging at me and I think it was that I was going to be working instead of being where I needed to be. All I know is that after the service, that burden was gone.
I had to stop at home real quick on the way back to work though. Although I'd filled up the car with gas, the truck was low so I switched vehicles. My intent was to take an hour or two today and vacuum and wash the truck for the kid. I have Smith's card points and right now that works out to a savings of eighty cents a gallon for gas, so I was gonna fill up one of the tanks, too.
About a quarter after nine last night, I got a call from the former Mrs. Cooper asking where I was. I told her where and that I'd have to call her back. She told me what she wanted, so I didn't need to call back, so I pressed on thinking that today I had a good plan. June has tidied up the house all week in anticipation of meeting the kid's fiance' today.
When I got home last night, though, I noticed two things. First one was that the driveway was empty. The second was that all my stuff from inside the truck was piled up on the front step. Apparently, my son was a bit impatient.
My son is lucky that the crane ran out of gas because if not for that, I'd have stayed at work and he'd have rolled up to Ogden for nothing. Conversely, had he stuck to the plan, the truck would have been clean and fueled up for him.
God's providences work out all kinds of things, and although it didn't work according to plan, things worked out. I got to go where I needed to. The kid got what he wanted. And life is good.
