Liars!

Galatians 6:7-8 says "do not be decieved.  God cannot be mocked.  A man reaps what he sows.  The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature, will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

This is the Word of the LORD.

Online, I can be anything I want to be.  I can say I'm thin, athletic, good looking.  I can be thirty.  I could say I was 20 but I don't play video games or speak the language of a 20 year old so that's probably not going to fly.  My point is though, that I can represent myself any way I choose and online, nobody knows the difference.  When you meet me face-to-face though, what you see isn't going to bear out with any of the things I could choose to represent myself as.  In short, just because I say something, doesn't mean it's the truth.

Yes, I'm going someplace with this.  Hang in there, you'll see in a minute.

I shared the verse with you because every time you spend money, you spread a message that as each passing day in America goes by, becomes less and less the truth.  That message is this:  In God We Trust.

Really?

We sure have a funny way of showing it these days.  It seems to me with some of the issues going on these days, it seems to me that trusting God is about the last thing we're doing as a people.

I've seen things in the last week that I never thought I'd see.  I forgot to add seeing a Pope resign to that list.  Yes, the Catholic church has issues that need to be dealt with, but does that really surprise anyone?  Look, Satan is the enemy of the Christian church.  Does it come as a shock that he can use his powers to infiltrate?  Because the scandals that are happening in the church are because mortal men who were born with a sin natue, sin.  Other men with that sin nature cover things up to protect the church from scandal instead of doing the right thing, which would be do deal with it properly.  In the light of day, though the whole thing comes crashing down and it serves the devil's purposes, not God's.  The big C Church has enemies.  Case in point:

I saw a segment on a TV show I watch making fun of Pat Robertson.  OK, there are a lot of things that man has said and done over the years that I don't necessarily agree with or support but one of his viewers asked a question about evil spirits attaching themselves to inanimate objects.  He's answering the question, somewhat tongue in cheek, and laughing as he's answering the question.  With the serious problems in this country, the TV presenter was trying to make Mr. Robertson look like a fool, like some kind of twack job.  Really, with all of the things going on in the country and world, that's the best you have to offer me?  Making fun of a guy who clearly wasn't being all serious about what he was saying.

Shame on you, Ed.

I've seen these same types of folks who will stand up for religious freedom and defend Muslims, but will bash Christians at every opportunity.  I'm not saying some if that isn't deserved, but last night wasn't.  Just sayin'...

Oh yeah, reaping what we sow.  Our money says we trust in God.  God has some things to say about pretty much everything we're dealing with in America.  God says debt is bad.  We spent too much money that we didn't have and now the bills are coming due.  We're reaping as a nation what we sowed.  God has some things to say about marriage and same sex relationships, too.  Look at what God has done to me to keep me married.  We reap what we sow.  I have.  Even though I've been forgiven for my many sins, I still had to face the penalties for them.  I'm a better man for it, but all the same, I paid the price.

If you're curious about the price we might pay, one only has to look at a few history books.  The ancient Romans let this kind of stuff go on, and now you can visit several places in Europe and see the ruins of what was the "great civilization".  Yeah, um, nGod ot so much....  Sodom and Gomorrah were wiped from the face of the Earth.  In the Biblical account, Lot protected God's angels who were sent to destroy the cities from the men there who wanted to have sex with them.  The angels hustled Lot and his family out.  God said run and don't look back.  Lot's wife did and God turned her into a pillar of salt.

Again, if we really trust in God, don't y'all think it's time we started acting like it?

If you agree with me, I'd like you to do two small things.  First off, I'd like you to pray for our nation and its leaders, which is a command in the New Testament.  If you tune in to BBN radio at 11:55, you can join a prayer for our nation each day.  93.1 fm in SLC, 99.5 up here in Ogden.  Second, I'm going to ask you to do something a little harder.  I'm going to ask that if you're one who gets upset that God is not in school, or mad that someone wants to take the words "under God" out of the Pledge of Allegiance, and can't bear to see the words "In God We Trust" removed from our money, I'm going to ask you to start thinking about what trusting God looks like and to start living your own life that way.

The words in the opening are a strong warning from God's Holy Word.  God cannot be mocked and we reap what we sow.  Spring is almost here.  Let's all start sowing new crops this year.
