Ant-ish stuff

I'm really trying to take this whole stewardship thing seriously but I didn't realize just how so until a few minutes ago.  Part of stewardship means taking care of the old body.  It used to be the latest thing, something to be driven hard and fast.  But when you do that without regular oil changes and preventative maintenance, it turns into a "fixer-upper".  In two months, I will be 50 and that makes me a "classic".  (if I were a car, but that's the metaphor for the day, so it works.)  And I accidentally caught myself in restore mode.

I know at 50 things have to be checked and I have a couple of options for healthcare (I'm very blessed!).  I go to the VA for my physicals now because they're a lot more thorough and a lot more free.  I still like my primary Dr. but when you're on a budget you have to look sometimes for a better deal.  Not always, but sometimes.  Anyhow, I scheduled my physical for two weeks from now.

For those that gripe about the big bad gummit taking over healthcare, I can go get my lab work done at the VA one week early so when I do take my physical, I can have the results for the doctor to review with me while I'm there.  That's pretty forward-thinking for the government, no?

I also will get my release for using the gym at work during that visit.  Things hurt, yes, but it's about losing a few pounds just to take the pressure off the ol' knees.

I even took a wellness survey with my healthcare insurance provider.  Hey, they'll put $40 on a debit card for healthcare related expenses so why not?  It says I'm depressed, fat, lazy, and don't eat right.  I need to be happy (I thought I was!), lose some weight (duh!), go to the gym (working on it!) and eat better. (easy to say, hard to do when you live with the queen of fried food!)  I wonder, as an aside, if the carne asada burrito at three this morning was a bad idea.... (hey, they were open when I got the roomie out of the emergency room!)  Or the cream cheese and jalepeno stuffed, bacon wrapped chicken breasts I'm planning on making for din-din tonight?

I would like to get back to about 225 the correct way.  I know I will by summer just because of where I work and the yardwork that needs done around here. but it's good to set a goal.

Well, that's it for here.  I'm nursing the roomie who took a spill (or a digger, if you're from Maine!).

Hope you have a blessed Saturday!
