Stuff I learned this week
I learned a lot of stuff this week. Mostly because I took the time to notice things and had my nose in the Bible a lot.
On Monday, I learned that beatitudes means blessings. I'm really gonna like the new Bible study at work even if we have to call it something else.
I'm learning more about things as I grow in faith. There's power in the name of Jesus. I learned that just a bit ago. Good and very timely lesson. I needed that about an hour after I learned it.
On Thursday, I learned a couple of things about servanthood and loving your enemy. I really reflected on the things that took place at the Passover meal with the disciples. Jesus washed their feet. All twelve of them, even the one that betrayed Him. The Son of God did that to men. That's all about serving others. And loving your enemy.
I have a long way to go in some respects.
I learned that people really do care about things. We didn't have a Good Friday worship service at my church but we could have with all the folks that were there doing this or that on Friday, including yours truly. I mow the lawn. Someone was doing flowers. Another couple was getting things ready for Sunday. As I was leaving, a mother and daughter were showing up to do something else. There was a lot of serving going on.
I learned that saying hello can really make someone's day. I offered up the use of a chain saw to my back fence neighbor on Saturday. She declined the offer that day, but on Wednesday she told me her mom would like to use it. I sent it over. Mom came back later with questions. In the ensuing ten minutes, I'd murdered her apricot tree for her. I got it on the ground. She's done an outstanding job of turning it into firewood. I know my neighbors now. That's kind of cool
People smile and say hello to me frequently these days. I talked to two strangers on Friday down at the church. I hope each shows up on Sunday. Sometimes someone just needs to talk to someone. I know alone and it sucks. It's not hard to be kind to strangers and sometimes you can sneak in a church invite or a wee bit of the Good News. You never know how a kind word will affect someone.
I heard from the squoze and learned two things on Tuesday. I was running ahead of God was one thing and the squoze was not exactly as heartbroken at the demise of our little relationship as she pretended to be. She wanted to be Mrs. anybody I think. It doesn't surprise me. Hurt a little, but I'm not surprised.
I learned some other things on Friday. I have elevated cholesterol again. I'm also officially in the 'pre-diabetic' stage of life. I also learned I'd lost ten pounds since I had cat scratch fever. (dant dant dant)
I still have a sense of humor.
I thought some today about what must have been going through the disciples' minds on the Sabbath after Christ's crucifixion. It's hard to put yourself in that mindset sometimes because if you were like me, you worked your guts out in the yard today because you didn't have to work for once on a Saturday because you're broke. I could stay busy today and make some joyful noises to the Lord as I was doing so. Because of Jewish law, they had to rest, alone with their thoughts, and thinking about "what next?" or ponder why Jesus didn't save Himself. I'm sure there were questions a plenty. I have some of my own on this day about "why"? But in the end I know it doesn't matter and I have the blessing of knowing that while today may be a dark day on the Christian calendar, that Sunday's a'comin!
I thought too, during the day yesterday about Christ on the cross. The beating he endured and the suffering that went along with it. On the cross, Jesus forgave the men who put Him there and asked God to forgive them, too. He forgave the one criminal who believed on Him while the guy was hanging on his own cross. It's a reminder to forgive as I've been forgiven and not forgive the way I really want to sometimes.
Up to the end, Jesus was still teaching.
A pretty girl went out of her way to say hi to me on Wednesday. I think, anyway. I said hi back but she was leaving work and I was headed that way. Haven't seen her since, though...
Monday is another day except I'm taking Monday off because I can.
Unless I don't. I'm taking that ant thing pretty seriously, too.
Well, you can see I've had a full week. I learned stuff. I contemplated stuff. I read stuff. I got to help lots of people out this week which was kind of cool. I met new people. I have health challenges. I'm closer to God than I was on Monday.
That's the best thing I learned all week!
