Pink, black, gray, white
I finished my bathroom today. Well, as finished as it can be right now. Someday, I will tear out the entire bathroom and start over. I know that some folks think "pink" is fancy. I think white is just fine and would look just peachy, thank you. But for now, I'll let the pictures tell the story.
There's only so much you can do with this setup.
First off, there's the pink toilet. It's a wall-mount toilet and they're quite spendy. A replacement is someplace north of $600. Then there's this little jewel of a vanity which is made out of plywood. So is every cupboard in this house. I had to patch places where the plywood has chipped over the years so staining it wasn't an option. Painting it black was though and I think, a good one.
When we first bought the house, there was carpet in both bathrooms. We put down the tile as quickly as we could. The carpet was nasty. I mean that. NASTY.
I found the "aviator wings" drawer pulls in a sack in the garage. We had just enough for every door and drawer in both bathrooms so they must've been purchased for these rooms. I don't remember even buying them. I wanted to put brushed nickel bar pulls in but that would have cost over $50. These were free because I already had them.
Waste not, want not!
I'm really starting to understand about getting what you pay for when it comes to paint. Frog tape is expensive but paint doesn't wick under the edge. It does with cheap painter's tape. I spent a lot of time today with an artist's brush fixing where paint bled under cheap tape. I was able to clean up a lot of the edges with an artist brush.
I'm glad I took the time to do that. It really shows in the finished product. I'm glad I bought good paint, too. I had to touch up a spot here or there, but for the most part, the paint went on in one coat. I have 2/3 of a gallon left so my laundry room will most likely wind up the same color.
I have to replace some sheet rock in there though. That one I'm gonna hire someone for. I am not good at mud and tape.
I had been holding off on purchasing the paint because I knew it was gonna be expensive. I was surprised to find it on sale, though, at the little hole in the wall paint store by the mall. When I got there, it was on sale. (Shameless plugs for Weber Paint, for Benjamin Moore paints in general, and Frog tape. ) I still have half a gallon of the Behr Ultra Premium left. No shameless plugs for that paint here. I'm not happy with it at all. They offered me a refund on the can but I decided that if I was gonna use it, that I shouldn't get something for nothing. I bought it. I wouldn't again.
I would like to update the faucet but as you can see in the photo, that's not as easy as it sounds. It has to mount sideways and I can only use a faucet that mounts through one hole. I saw one today at Home Depot but it's antiqued brass. I don't think it'll match the colors I had to use for the bathroom.
Anyway, after a year of working on it, off and on, I finally got it painted. It could use a rug and some photos. I want square wicker baskets for the cubbyhole shelves you can't really see in the picture. I need some photos or pictures or something to hang on the walls as well. And maybe, towels that don't have someone else's initials on them.
About the towels. Downeast Home sells seconds of high end stuff. My towels may have someone else's initials on them, but they're all Pottery Barn towels.
Well, gang, that's all from Lark Circle today. Hope you're having a good start to the week and a blessed Lord's Day.
