What a great day to celebrate!
Lots of happy today here at Lark Circle. My nephew is home from Bible college. He's spending his summer on Victoria Island, British Columbia as a camp counselor. That's pretty cool. College has changed the kid quite a bit. He's a lot more grown up.
We had a nice day, my little family and I. I found some leftover maple chips which made the treat of grilled steaks an extra special treat. If you've never tried this, I highly recommend it. They sell the wood chips at Sportsman's Warehouse. Soak a handful or two in water for about thirty minutes and then toss them on top of your briquets. You smoke and cook the steaks at the same time and they have a sweet, smoky flavor to them. Maple goes really well with steak.
I hickory smoked pork chops last night for dinner. I have the bug to be outside.
It was nice. Miss June was able to attend services with me today and if more than just a handful of people read this thing anymore, I'd ask the pastor to post the sermon he gave today, WORD for WORD. It was that poignant.
The blessing was that she had the day off and felt well enough to venture out into the world for an hour or so. I didn't have to sit by myself in church, which is always nice.
I started my day off with absolutely no sleep. Someplace after four, I think I dozed off and the alarm went off at seven-thirty or something. I kept hitting snooze. Bucket doesn't like snooze. He's Tango Uniform right now, by the way. He makes me laugh when he lays on his back like that. Anyway, he woke me up and I lit up the computer to find "Celebrate Jesus Celebrate" on youtube! That's a toe-tapper and one of my favorites.
I shared that with my Facebook friends along with the Good News! He is Risen! He is Risen, Indeed! Aleluia!
After all, that's what we're celebrating!!!!!!
Part of my celebrating was puttering in the yard. My mom added to my collection of gadgets by giving me an electric cultivator/tiller. The thing is flower bed sized and is helping me tear through the jungle that is my yard. I was even able to get some mulch down on the flower beds in the back 40. I'm about half-way done with that one and my strawberries are weeded. I even found time to toss plant food on them and rose food on the roses that survived the winter. One of my rose bushes died, sadly. I liked that one, too. It had pretty white roses.
Other things I can't seem to kill.
Like weeds.
I have never had dandelions like I do this year. They had almost taken over my strawberry patch but I fought back.
I already have flowers on the strawberries.
To me, getting things done around here is a bit of a celebration in itself. It means that I'm starting to give a damn about living again. I'm not overwhelmed, and I'm recognizing that I'm not gonna get all of this done in a day. It didn't get messed up in a day and if I do a little bit every day, then a little more won't have to be done the next day. It's really getting to be a stewardship thing with me. I started in the back 40 because it was the biggest mess. And now it's not. Now there are clearly delineated flower beds that have flowers in them. My back fence neighbor has the prettiest poppies and these other yellow flowers I'm not sure what they are. They spread though so I just let them grow. The back 40 is like my upper back yard and it's gonna be the meditation place this summer.
The lower back yard is next on the list. I'm holding off just to see what's going to come up that hasn't. We have flowers that come up every year. One of them died over the winter so it'll get replanted. It's this neat little round bush that puts out these purple flowers twice during the summer. It was my favorite thing. I have one I can transplant that's in a clump of grass right now.
Celebrating also means giving thanks to God for everything! I'm so very blessed and thankful for the time I had today to get things done. It meant a lot to Miss June who isn't getting around very well anymore to see things happening. I don't do things her way, but I think she understands that I need to organize things so they can be done my way with the aid of power tools because between work and things I don't have a lot of time to work on the yard and she can't do what she used to.
That's it for me. If you went to church today and aren't planning on returning until Christmas, WHY NOT?!
You have some celebrating to do!
