Who am I to argue?

I often share things I hear from the radio with y'all.  Last week, I heard this program on the book of Ecclesiastes.  The book was written by King Solomon, who is considered in many circles (with the exception of Jesus) to be the wisest man who ever lived.

The program was kind of comparing this time in Solomon's life to a mid-life crisis.  It was a good program, the pastor talked about how Solomon took the time to examine things in and around his life and I thought there was some good wisdom in the program.  If you have time, read the book and kind of keep that thought in mind.  It adds an interesting perspective on what you'll read.

I do want to share with you the end of the book from the New International Version translation.  From Ecclesasties vv 11-14(NIV)

"The words of the wise are like goads, their collective sayings like firmly embedded nails--given by one Shepherd.  Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them.

Of making many books there is no end and much study wearies the body.

Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter:  Fear God and keep His commandments for this is the whole duty of man.  For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil."

Sounds like good sense to me.  I'm not that smart, so it seems like listening to the advice of the wisest man who ever lived is a pretty good plan.

BTW, if you're curious about why I do some of the things I do, even though I don't talk much about it anymore and if you have some free time, read 1 Corinthians, chapter seven to about the end of chapter 13.  Ephesians chapter 5 is another good read.  Second Timothy chapter three is a good read as is Jude vv 8-16.  Read those two and see if they apply to anyone you know.  First Peter Chapter 3 has some good advice as well.

Church is tomorrow.  10:00 a.m. at 25th & Jefferson in Ogden if you can make it or don't have a church of your own to attend.  We'd love to see you there!
