more about lions

Psalm 34:10 (NLT) says:  The young lions sometimes go hungry but those who trust in the Lord will never lack any good thing.

This was the memory verse last week from BBN Radio.  They share a verse of scripture a week to help folks hide God's word in their hearts.  I need to work on this one and I have a story about it.

I must've heard this verse at least a half-dozen times before a week ago today.  Earlier in the day last Friday, I asked God if there was anything He wanted to share with me and turned to this very page.  The verse is at the top of the page.  On the facing page in this particular Bible (It's a devotional Bible) is a story about Ira Sankey.  He was a hymn writer in the 1800s and fought in the Civil War on the Union side.  The story goes on to tell how he had a chance encounter with a man who fought for the South.  One night while Mr. Sankey was on guard duty, he began singing a hymn.  The Confederate soldier, unbeknownst to Mr. Sankey was about to shoot him.  But the man heard him singing the hymn and ultimately decided to let him live.

It's a marvelous story about how God works in people's lives.  I heard another today on the radio but I'll spare you that because it's not germane to the story at hand.

Anyway, I read that story that day, and chuckled and read the verse a few times.  I'm glad I did.  Anyway, sometimes the Lord will use circumstances to reinforce something in my life He wants me to know.  I've mentioned before the radio program Unshackled.  It's on at eleven on weekdays and I get to hear it on Fridays because I get off work at eleven.  As the program continued, they told that very same story about Ira Sankey that I just shared with you.

Sometimes in life we go hungry.  Sometimes that word can mean more than food.  But no matter what, I know that because I trust in the Lord, I'm going to be OK.

The winds of change began blowing in my life in January.  I'm not really sure what's coming but something is.  What my life will be in the next few months I'm really not certain of.  I don't need to be.  God knows.  He already told me that if I trust Him, I'll want for no good thing.

So tonight, I'm trusting.  How about you?
